Hi Haris

Thank you for your contribution. I must say anyway that what you posted is, at it's best, a workaround. Anything implying switcing off functions to help others work or artificially modifying the phones configuration is definitely not a solution. There is a huge difference between both, a real solution and a workaround just to keep going...

I also will like to emphasize that the solution you posted is not related (or fixes) the problem most people are discussing in this post.

Phone calls suddenly dropping in the middle of a conversation in great reception areas with the "call failed" message on it.

I've bought a third phone and I happens just the same. Not a network issue (older iPhone 4 works flawlessly at same conditions) not a sim card issue (3 different phones new sim cards for 2 of them) not a signal quality/intensity issue (4+ bars when cuts happen).

I will now update my testing on this bug. There are a few changes as for the wifi connectivity

PROBLEM

  1. Device: Iphone 4s (5.01)
  2. The device suddenly ends the call showing a "call failed" message
  3. No sound, signal loss, or tone is heard before or after the cut. It just halts all communications

FACTS

  1. Not a sim card issue. I've replaced mine and my wife's and still the call failed bug persists. Most users reported the same.
  2. Not a Siri related issue. My phones (3 iphone 4s) are Spanish ones and have no Siri integration yet.
  3. Not a network specific issue. Many users in this forums from different networks in different countries are claiming to have the same issue.
  4. Not a network intensity or quality issue. My office is really close to a cellular tower. I constantly have 5 bars on 3G and still the cuts persist.
  5. Not related to Wifi connectivity. After testing two of the units with wifi network switched on the problem persists.

CLUES (need futher testing)

  1. Failure rate As stated by many users and myself on two different (brand new) devices the failure rate is between 75% to 100% on 9+ minutes calls.
  2. The connection to the would eventually cellular network resets itself showing the search icon and then connecting again.
  3. Environment. 3G network switching. Issues on my devices seem to have happened on 3G areas

I would like to point out that this is an extremely annoying bug since it drops calls time and again. We feel absolutely abandoned by apple staff how has no official statement about this issue.

Hi all,

Guess all you guys are pretty tired of more messages saying, "I´ve also have the same problem".

But guess what: Here is another one!

  1. Ongoing Call
  2. Called Failed
  3. Notification Center "Call Failure"
  4. Phones unstable for 5 second
  5. No Service
  6. Searching
  7. And AT LAST I can call my custumer back to tell how sorry I am about my crappy iPhone!

The "only reason" for posting this, is just to let Apple know ONE MORE have the same exact problem!

My Story (in short)

Location: Norway, good 3G receiption, operator Telenor.

  1. 3 different MicroSIMs tested, last one verified by my operator apple team!
  2. 2 iPhone4S (16GB) tested, same happens with "new" replace unit!
  3. All, and I mean ALL of google forums tips/tricks/turn this and that on and off
  4. Latest release A06 (iOS5.0.1)
  5. My Operator is running debug from their end, just to eliminate.

What´s next, a freakin Windows Phone???

Sorry for not bringing a solution, Im just a number in the row!

If you have a call failing issue and updating your iOS does not fix your problem, try each of these steps until you resolve your issue:

  • Make sure that you are in range of the cell network by checking cell signal indicator bars.
  • Reset your network by tapping Settings > General > Network
  • Reset your iPhone by holding down the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears
  • Try Settings > phone > show my caller ID. Just visit and let the device load your settings.
  • Try disabling airline mode.

Thanks Guys hope this'll help.

  • Resetting network - doesn't work.
  • Resetting the phone - Seems to work but temporary.
  • Caller Id - is on by default I have disabled this a few times when phone certain people and the issue is the same regardless.
  • Airline mode is disabled by default and if airline mode was enabled you would not be able to make any calls

Caller Id and Airline mode have nothing to do with the issue It has to be either a phone issue or network issue

At the moment I have Tried Hard reset, Soft reset and I was going to replace my sim but a friend of mine has an iphone 4s that actually works.

So we swapped sim cards and my phone had the same issues regardless of their being a different sim in it, so its not a network issue and has to be the phone I think it maybe a hardware issue probably the modem within the phone itself. but then again it doesn't explain why some phones work and other phones have these problems.

What I think

Apple have supplied a bad batch of phones which majority of us have purchased so the only way I think this can be resolved is to continue to replace the phone until we get one that is not apart of the bad batch.

I know this is frustrating but there really is no alternative (from what I can see) we literally have to do a lucky dip and hope we get the right one.

What apple should do though is for those who replace the phone due to the problems their having they should at least compensate us for the lack of support and for the inconvenience it has caused.

I'm having this problem for the first time tonight! talked to AT&T support for hour didn't solve the problem. First we did airplane mode, network reset, Then hard reset by holding the home button+off button, none of those worked so tech guy told me to bring back to best buy for simswap. I couldn't wait till tomorrow I went ahead and reset to factory setting. It worked couple times, then call failed again! Got ****** turn off wifi And it automatically go bAck to 3G. Then I charged the phone up for a while and stArt making calls again and it worked like normal. So I suspect it has to do something with wifi/3G at home. If I run into the problem again I will definitely exchange for new one. I'm kinda ****** now cuz I cannot show bestbuy guys the problem I run into tonight. Yes you are not the only one who have this problem. Apple and AT&T should resolve this problem since people have been experiencing this type of thing for last couple of year. Maybe i5 will not having the same issue :)

I've had the problem, too, but not with 50% of my calls. I've made about 6 calls where nothing happens on my end, but the callee's phone rings. The call looks like a regular call on the screen, but I don't hear the ring or the answer, and the person I'm calling doesn't hear anything after answering. I repeat the call and everything works fine on the second try.

I'm on Verizon, using a black 64GB 4S, and did not have this problem with my old phone.

Same problem here in Austria, Vienna! I'm using a 32GB iPhone 4s. Many outgoing calls are looking regular, the connection seems to be established, the time counter is counting, but i cant hear anything. Incoming calls working well. The problem only occurs on outgoing calls! My wife's iPhone 4, also on iOS5 and the same provider doesn't have this problem.

I've had my 4s since release date (in the US/ Colorado)- I'm on AT&T with a 64GB white phone- I've had an iPhone since 1st Gen, always AT&T. I've never had this problem before, but I'm having it with this phone- easily 50% of my outgoing calls do just as described above. The call looks like it's connecting, the counter starts counting time, but there is no sound. Sometimes, apparently, it connects and the recipient can't hear me and I never hear them, other times, it just times out and says call failed.

Wack

You can turn 3G off by going to Settings>Network> Then turn off cellular data. This has allowed me to make phone calls without any issue or disrupting any calls. The Apple support said that this might be due to a fault with the micro-sim since some of the phones are unable to use previous micro-sim's since they are not compatible with the iOS 5. Note: Very rare phones have this issue so you might want to check with you network for calrification.

Snap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Top phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you want to make a call>>> 15 calls ..5connected ...3 of them took 25 seconds to connect.. 2 of them there was no sound. 5 texts sent >>x2 arrived

Arranged a "Return" to Vodafone the same day I got it,

Brilliant bit of kit!!!!!!! but worthless if you cant use the phone!!!!

Do I try another one?? I think I will but I will keep returning them back for a new one if they do not not work! 3 chances!
