My iPhone 4s phone call failed more than 50% times, some times people can't hear my voice, is there anybody else has same problem?

I have this, too. My original iPhone 4s had no sound on calls about 30% of the time. I am on my 4th 4s now and the last 3 have had this dropping call issue. The last one dropped 95% of my calls!!! So I am using my iPhone 4 now. Waitin for a new batch or something to come in to my local apple store.

They keep replacing them no questions asked - without even having the problem duplicated in the store. So I was thinking maybe it is the hardware.

I have done full restores, swapped out SIM cards, reset network settings... 64GB Black 4s on AT&T.

(I will say that the apple and AT&T folks have been very nice, at least.)

Hi guys

I just want to share my experience regarding this matter. 10 days ago I bought a new factory unlocked iphone 4s from an electronics store in my country Jordan. So the next day while I was using the phone I noticed that many calls did not get through and I got the "call failed" error around 30% of the time. We have another iphone 4 at home so I decided to switch sims and try to test, I put them next to each other, and still I got same error on my new iphone, and in the morning when I woke up, it said "no service" and I had to switch it off and on again before it worked. So finally, I decided to take it back to the store, the guy at the store said that this is a settings issue, he changed a couple of stuff added a pin code to the sim and asked me to try it, still I got the same error. The next day I went back to the store and they asked me to change the sim!! I got a new one but still I got the same error! The third day I asked for an exchange, and the guy there said that their technician needs to check it first before they can return it. I said alright and they took the iphone for 4 days!! and I went to the shop again, they said that the technician had checked it and there's nothing wrong with it!! bull! I told them look I'll take it home and test it and if the error comes up again I'll return it. I went back home and boom the error appeared again, I actually noticed that the error appears specially after the phone sleep, so if I let the phone sleep and then try to make a phone call the error would show. I went right back to the shop and asked for an exchange, at first they were reluctant but when I tested the phone in front of them they were convinced and finally replaced the phone! Now I'm using the new phone and so far I haven't faced any problems so I assume that it was a hardware issue, so my advice to you guys is to try to get a replacement as quick as possible! Hope this helps 🙂

I posted in this thread on December 1st. (Yes, restored, got a new sim card, and got 4 replacements from my Apple store - still same issue - until now.) After posting, I called and had a replacement sent to me instead of swapping out phones from the same Apple store (and the same batch of defective phones!). I have not had the same problem. It has been a 6 days since my replacement came. (I had to send them my phone and they did diagnostic testing and determined I needed a replacement.) No problems. (Knocking on wood.) So I feel pretty sure it is not a carrier issue or an iOS issue.

There are at least a few bad batches out there with a range of issues: no outgoing call audio, dropping calls like crazy, battery issues. Just replace your phones.

Hi All

In response to my last post, I've just been informed by Apple Support that a software update has just been released to fix this issue.

You have to backup your phone and then click restore in iTunes.

It will come up with iOS 5.0.1 but it's actually a newer/updated version of the last iOS update designed to address this issue and other slight i4s faults.

I'm downloading it now. I will test it out over the weekend and share my results.

Best wishes

As I posted earlier, I was having the "call failed" problem (not other ones that are also discussed in this thread). Since my last posting I raised a formal ticket with Apple. They recommended that I backup the phone, reset it to factory settings, and then restore from backup. I was very sceptical about this as it didn't seem very different to what I'd already done (buy a new phone, upgrade firmware, restore from backup). However I'm pleased to say that since then (about 3 weeks) I haven't had any failed calls.
