Is anyone else having a problem with the iPhone 4s Battery Life? My 1 year old Iphone 4, which I gave to my wife, is holding a charge better and she has been using it far more than I've been using my 4s

My wife preordered a white iPhone 4s for our anniversary and even though it is preloaded with the ios 5, i am a little disappointed. The battery doesn't seem to hold a charge well at all. I have had every other iphone except the 3gs and have never had such a poor battery life. I owned the iPhone 4 for a year, and already know all the tricks to hold on to battery life, I have adopted the habit of closing out any apps that weren't being used, my mail push notifications are set for hourly, wifi and bluetooth are turned off when they aren't needed. I also stay away from any car chargers, use only the apple brand supplied cables, and only charge when the phone is dead. I only would sync when the phone was about to die as well.

When I saw how fast I was burning through the battery, I turned off Siri, which is kind of the purpose of the new iPhone, and turned off the backing up to iCloud. I barely used my phone today and the battery kept ticking down. My wife, who has been stuck with an iPhone 3g for years, has been fascinated with my old iPhone 4 and has been browsing and playing games and her battery has been holding a better charge than my new phone. I even tried turning the phone off for an hour when it was at 18% and when I turned it back on, it was at 15%. My iPhone 2, which is only being used as a touch iPod now, still has better standby time than a brand new iPhone 4s.

To be honest, I am usually a heavy phone user. Throughout the day I will make and receive at least 50 calls, I browse and check websites daily and watch videos sometimes during my downtime. But this weekend, I haven't even had the chance to put this phone through the same abuse my other 3 iPhones have had to endure.

I just want to know if anyone else has this problem, or if I should just return this one.

I have the new 4s, when I first got the battery life was horrible and I am not a big user, but I couldn't finish a day without carrying my charger around. Then I let the battery drain completly and re-charged and it seemed battery life improved but was still not that great. Then I installed the update that was supposed to fix the battery problem and it's worse again! What's going on? My husband as the Iphone 4 and he had great battery life but after he installed the update he is having battery life problems as well now. I just did a hard reset hoping that might fix the problem. I love my many apple products and I'm really hoping apple comes up with a fix for this soon.

My relatively new iphone 4 drained at the rate of 15% per hour. Only reloading the mail accounts solved the problem , but only temporarily (lasted a wekk or so).

Upgraded to iOS 5 which made the problem worse - 20% drain per hour. Deleting the mail accounts under the new operating system had no effect. Ev

Apple replaced iphone and still have the same problem - 20% per hour.

Tried everything - turned everything off I could think of and even restored phone to factory settings, drained battery and recharged. No Joy.

This is very frustrating.

Count me in as another frustrated iPhone 4s user (if Apple is counting). I've been using an iPhone since day 1 and in that time have probably had a phone die on me maybe 10 times total (obviously not a heavy user). Since purchasing the 4s ~4 weeks ago, my phone has died on me about as many times in 4 weeks as in 3 years with the prior 3g, 3gs, and 4. I've tried several different liste tricks, but am not willing to essentially brick my "smart phone" to prevent battery drain.

So here's the rub... AT&T gives us 30 days to return the phone... and most of us should be nearing that expiration date. Is it smarter to just return the phone, say in exchange for another 4G and pocket a healthy $ difference or stick with the 4s & miss the return date in the hope that 5.0.2 solves the drain? What say you?

Lophman, sorry to find out none of the solutions posted are working for you. You do not need to brick it to prevent the drain. Try the resets first, they seemed to help most uers and you do not loose any data. Make sure you are running 5.0.1.

Did you ever solve the other issues you had with 10.7.2, did you get any help over at arubabetworks. (AIRHEADS)?

Best of luck, I suspect that developers would get a pre-release of 5.0.2 but that has not happened yet.

Thanks

It's possible the problem lies with battery indicator itself. In my case the battery nose dives to 79% from 100% overnight with the phone in sleep mode. This varies; 79% is the most iit has dropped to overnight. After that, during the day, usage seems normal so that at the end of the day I still have between 30 - 50% left. Clearly I don't use the phone as much as most people. I've tried switching things off in the Settings, as suggested by others, but it didn't help. The reason why I think the problem may lie with the battery indicator itself is because when I think about it, overall the battery lasts about the same amount of time as my previous iphone4 but is definitely not any better.

It is a syncing error loop. My contacts are syncing flawessly again between my devices and iCloud, and yes, the battery stopped draining, which is the main topic here.

I followed instructions from buxbuster (look for his workaround in the thread link below) and an additional BIG step to restore contacts and syncing, as seen in a MacRumors forum.

This is what I did:

1. Make a backup of your Address Book, using the vCard option (or both, it doesn’t hurt). Save it for later.

2. In your iPhone, delete iCloud account. When it asks, accept both: delete AND delete from my iPhone.

3. Reset network settings. The iPhone will restart, then will ask you to unlock the SIM card.

4.Turn Wi-Fi on.

5. Add the iCloud account again.

That’s for Buxbuster’s workaround. For some, it might work just like that. My iPhone repopulated from iCloud after step 5, but I still had that “server error” on iCloud. I had to do some extra steps, since my Mac was not syncing to iCloud and couldn’t edit anything on my Mac or iCloud. Syncing back had to be fixed, too. If not, the syncing loop would continue from my iPhone, and the battery would drain awfully again.

1. In System Preferences -> iCloud, I turned Contacts off. I chose “keep on My Mac” those contacts, but I got an empty Address Book after a while. And a few minutes later, iCloud contacts were empty and my iPhone also. It is scary at first! Now, before importing that vCard backup…

2. Turn Wi-Fi off. This is important, since your contact-empty iCloud will attempt to wipe your Address Book from your Mac in seconds after importing.

3. Import your vCard backup to Address Book. Just drag it to your blank Address Book window; it asks if you want to import “x” number of cards. Of course, say yes.

4. Turn Wi-Fi on, and then iCloud contacts on again (System Preferences -> iCloud). It will offer to merge your newly populated Address Book with iCloud (which is empty at this point). It should upload every single contact to iCloud, and then to your iDevices. If not, a fifth step would be to import the vCard file to iCloud, but it shouldn’t be necessary.

So, with iCloud syncing working correctly, there is no battery draining! Again, that was my particular issue.

I can’t tell if this is the single answer to the widely spread battery draining problem, but it sure can be fixed with these workarounds, and yes, Apple should address the problem with a future update, for we affected customers don’t need workarounds in the first place 😉

SOLVED

Solved for my case (caused by WhatsApp notification), this will suggest because of the bug in the WhatsApp or in the Notifications Center itself.. Might also affect other Messenger apps:

Go to Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp :

- Notfication Center : Off

- Alert Style: None

- Badge App Icon: On

- Sounds: Off

- View in Lock Screen: Off

If I turn On the "View in Lock Screen" setting, my battery will drain very fast if I keep the UNREAD mesage in the screen for long time.

Same problem. Compared to my 3GS the 4S battery is hopeless. Running all the same software. I've tried battery conditioning and shutting doesn all applications, and switching off WiFi, Bluetooth, and Loication Services (though the latter defeats the point of a smart phone!) I then went to an Apple shop, they ran diagnostics, said it all looked noraml but maybe latest IOS software is heavier drain and I should epxect to have to recharge every night. Anyway, they gave me a new phone and the reuslt is eaxctly the same, its no better! So there's definitely a battery problem.

Maybe there is a simple solution for the problem with battery. I got my iphone in November, it workes perfect, n o problems with battery-charge, much better than iphone 3gs, then two weeks ago I started a remember not with a certain tome but with a certain place. From then on battery worked for max. one day bevor it had to be recharged. So I supposd, the problem may be caused by a permanent locating, first started with the first setting of a remeber with location function. And now, I checked, which apps used the location-function in the last 24 hours: It was only his app. So I canceled the location function especially and only in this app, the result ist: the battery works much better again. So dear frineds from apple, please check this, I think, it is just a problem of software, possible?
