Change "My Number" iPhone 4S

Hi,

I have got an iPhone 4S on the 14th and just transferred my number from my old network with my PAC code. Problem is, in settings>phone>my number: the number listed is the temp one that was used whilst waiting on my PAC code transferring! On the old iOS versions all you had to do was tap on "My Number" and it would allow it to be changed. This does not seem to work on the iPhone 4S with iOS 5.

Hi,

I just had the same issue with my new iPhone 4S purchased fromApple in the UK. Ported my old number from02 to Three Mobile, but iTunes and settings -> phone -> My Number stillshow the temp number supplied by 3 Mobile prior to the transfer. Power cycling and re-syncing with iTunes madeno difference.

My old iPhone 3GS (IOS 4.3) and a friends iPhone 4 (IOS 5)still appear to allow this field to be edited, but not on the 4S.

Fixed the issue by doing:

  1. Switched off Face Time (Setting -> FaceTime-> FaceTime OFF)
  2. Switched off iMessage(Setting -> Messages->iMessage OFF)
  3. Switched on iMessage (The phone started “Verifying”the incorrect phone number, failed and set it to the correct ported number (seeSettings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Phone).
  4. At this point the “My Number” (Settings ->Phone -> My Number) had also updated.
  5. Switched on Face(Same “Verifying” as with iMessage, but tooktwo attempts).
  6. Power Cycled the ‘phone and re-synced to updateiTunes (Summary “Phone Number” field).

Hope this helps!

I think this mismatch has been screwing up my iMessage and FaceTime activation. My 4S has been sending the activation texts about 3 times per day since iOS 5.1 update and it's racked up a cost of £10 over the last month. My mobile plan doesn't include texts so I pay 10p for each one.😠

Just got my new micro sim - fingers crossed it stops the texts

Phenline,

The other posts were garbage ;-) Your link was the only answer that lead to an actual and complete solution. Granted, this will only solve the issue for those on the Sprint network, but I would assume that all networks have a similar key code entry for a "service update" procedure. Thank you.

For those on the Sprint Network:

on your Sprint iPhone 4 or 4S key pad, dial

##873283# and hit [call]

Hit [OK] in answer to the "Starting Service Update" pop-up window.

Wait for the “Service Update Complete” pop-up and hit [OK].

Reboot your Sprint iPhone 4 or 4S.

Done!

Problem solved.... all number discrepancies will have been corrected.

Thank you for you posts... everyone.

I've had the same issue with an iPhone 4S, moving from O2 to Three. I brought my number across, yet the phone / iTunes still displays the temporary number that came with the new SIM.

Tried the above - seemed to work for iMessage and FaceTime. However, iTunes / Phone app still displays the old number.

I rang Three, and I was told it was a known issue which was being worked on, and that the solution was to be issued with a new Sim (which they offered to post at no cost). Instead I collected one from my Three store (also at no cost).

He also pointed out the following risk with this issue: There is a small risk of sending the old number when sending an SMS (confusing for the recipient).

These are the most disconcerting kind of errors - intermittent.

Waiting for my new sim to activate - fingers crossed.

Hi

Same issue on iphone 4s moving a number from O2 to Three.

Basically if the above doesn't work, you're probably running the latest iOS update (5.1). Which means the only full solution (to fix the phone number as well as imessage and facetime) is to get a new sim from Three - either by ordering one in or going to your nearest store. I'd recommend the store option as it is far quicker and once a new sim is ordered you might be left without service until it reaches you.

Apparently apple are working on it so by the time iOS 5.2 is released this hopefully will no longer be an issue...
