iPhone 4s mic issues

iPhone 4s 64gb on Telstra

Half the time when i call someone they cannot hear me, i checked the mute button turning it off and on, no difference, also reset the phone etc.Not sure if carrier or phone fault. Seems to only happen with out going calls, happens to home and mobile phones.

Anyone else have this issue or know about it?

Also when taking a photo with the flash, the picture seems washed out with like a whiteneaa

Like JB Katz1, I am on my thirds 4S, and things are working fine so far(fingers crossed). Perhaps it was a bad batch. With people noticing rattling, I'm leaning back to a hardware problem. I used the "capture" program for the third one, which was delivered overnight via FedEx. That's the way to go if you are not near an Apple store. Just call Apple Care and have them do a capture. Only drawback is that they put a hold on your CC until you send the original phone back. I'll keep everyone posted.

I've been working with a senior tech support person out of Austin TX and we've narrowed it down to possible corrupt data files. I've done a clean install and not restored from back up files; adding one component at a time (contacts, then email accounts, then a few apps at a time). Thus far it is working and I'm not having the mic problems I was with the phone when I backed up. He is reporting that they are not getting any significant number of calls on this issue. Most are related to iCloud issues.

The rattling issue is caused by the volume buttons being just a little loose (move them around with your finger and you'll see there is some play).

Hello there, I have not iPhone 4s, but I have iPhone 4 and after upgrade to IOS5 I noticed

the same issue, ofcourse not with Siri:-) My Friends and familly, are no longer hearing me, in most cases

they scream to the phone, and don´t hear me screaming back...

I Think it is a software issue, beccause I can´t beleve, that only just upgrading to another IOS

the microphone break. And the Google translate works perfect and picking up my voice

and translates... and the recorder to... I hope Apple wil solve this soon, because i look like a dunbas

in front of my friend, i say allways how amazing Apple products are, and this spoils awerithing...

so i am officially declaring the problem solved with the third phone leading me to believe it is a hardware problem, not software. i have all three of my BT devices paired. Multipoint is working fine as well as Siri. I suggest if you're having the problem it is worth going through replacements until you get one that works. My guess it was something in an early batch. Good luck

Given that everyone is running the same software (IOS 5), and all have different hardware (i.e. different physical handsets), then it seems likely that this is a hardware issue...otherwise wouldn't Apple have been absolutely inundated with complaints - there would be a huge uproar given the launch hype.

There has also been evidence of people exchanging handsets and getting a good 'un - if this is a software issue then this shouldn't happen. Admittedly, i would have expected more people to receive a working handset upon exchange than has apprently been the case - if the proportion of defective handsets is so high then again i would expect there to have been more of a hoo-hah about this issue.

I was originally hoping that this was a software issue myself and was prepared to wait until a software patch was released, but given the low-key (unreported) nature of the problem and the fact that some people have exchanged for good units, i've given up on this idea - afraid i'm just going to have to book a Genius appointment and try to convince them to swap units (might be difficult given the random nature of the problem).

I'm in the UK btw, on the 3 network, and thoroughly fed up with my first iphone.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. My phone a 64gb Black 4s on Verizon was purchased on October 14. I started having the occasional mic problems almost immediately and originally blaimed myself or the network. Now almost 50% of my outgoing calls have various mic, speaker, BT, or no ringing and when connected they can't hear me or we can't hear each other. This is my 1st iphone as I am a Droid covert but I am now regretting coming over to the Apple side of the street. I've always said if the grass looks greener on the other side of the street its because they have more fertilizer, (B.S.). If Apple doesn't acknowledge and fix this problem soon they will have lost a new customer. I'll be calling them today.
