How can I connect 5.1 speakers to Macbook Pro 13 bought Summer 2011

Hi all
I am very new to the mac world. Basically I need to know how I can connect my Macbook Pro 13" to a 5/1 set of speakers.

Do I need something to plug to mini display port?

HI tq. i understand that the 3 way audio splitter is th emost cost effective option. 2 questions:

1) where can i purchase them?

2) hows the sound quality? good? average? below average?
