Outlook 2010 SP1 Sync with the iCloud

Problem: Contacts do not sync. Calendar Items sync. They do not appear in iCloud.com or on my Iphone.

It appears items sync from the Iphone to the iCloud and to Outlook. The problem is items syncing from Outlook to the iCloud.

I rebooted the PC thinking it migh jump start the sync from Outlook to the iCloud.

I also tried unchecking Contacts in iCloud PC Control Panel, applied the change and then reverted the change hoping that woud jump start the sync from Outlook.

There are no errors.

iCloud Control Panel is installed

Windows 7 64 bit version SP1

Outlook 2010 Sp1is install (32 bit Version)

Outlook Itunes Addin is running

Outlook iCloud Addin is running

Outlook PST Maintenance

PST was compacted

Ran ScanPST with fix option to eliminate any PST issues

Itunes Configuration Information

Itunes is not configured to sync Contacts or Calendar

iCloud Windows Control Panel

Is set to sync Contacts and Calendar

Iphone 4 is set to sync with iCloud.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Sjordi's explanation is the best I have seen yet regarding how iCloud's calendar and the Outlook default calendars do not synch. Instead, iCloud creates additional calendars in Outlook -- additional calendars that never synch with the Outlook default calendar. This is a huge problem with third party contact management software. If Apple had allowed synching with the default Outlook calendar, it would have provided a way to wirelessly synch and backup to many third party apps. So do iCloud "synch" data with Outlook? Not really. A better description would be that iCloud data is visible in Outlook. I keep looking to see if Apple or a third party has fixed this problem, but have found no solutions so far.

It is Apples secret why they have this additional useless structure to synch with iCloud. With iTunes they do it with Outlooks default structure and it works perfect since years. It would be easy for Apple to make iCloud synch like iTunes synch in terms of Outllok access. I think they have no clue what consumers want and are ignorant. This is what makes me hesitating using their products.

Well in general I think that Apple DOES know what consumers wants. Their products and software are extremely populair among consumers. That's why it frustrates (or maybe I should say surprises) me even more that this issue still hasn't been fixed yet.

Now that Apple has developed a kind of third party plugin that should integrate their product/service with a product from another vendor, the stability/usability suddenly s***ks. I did a fair amount of research on the error and, yes, I also've updated the iCloud software one time. Still no improvements.

I'm a big Apple fan and prefer to use Mac software as much as possible but I do need to run Windows programs as well. The Windows version of Outlook is one of them so please Apple, fix this or give us a work around,,,

I have outlook 2010 on my PC, and I use a BB phone and an Ipad in the field.

The work-a-round that I have come up with to sync contacts and calendars is to dump the BB phone and get an Iphone.

Then the Icloud will sync contacts and calendars across all 3 devices. I ignore the default "My Calendar" and Default "Contacts" in outlook completely.

We really can't blame Apple as they are not interested in interfacing with Microsoft.

We really can't blame Microsoft because, well, their stuff never really works quite right for years after release.

Blackberry (RIM) is so behind the technology that they can't really even sit at the table and cannot be held responsible for anything they do anymore.

I have found the Icloud to be very reliable.

I use a Microsft Exchange for my business email system because I need to sync not only across devices but across multiple users.

I would change my PC to a MAC if replacing all the windows software I use wasn't so expensive.

Outlook ist the best Email Client available. Apple cannot ignore it. In iTunes Apple did a proper integration of Outlook. With iCloud they missed it fully. It is not about quality or reliability. It is a complete design error of Apple. I use Google synch again. I don´t like it much but it works by design. Apples iCloud is not working by design.

I disagree, unless used with an Exchange account Outlook is the worst, least compatible overpriced mail client in existence. Anything is better than Ouutlook and an imap account.

Not Microsoft....this time its not a Microsoft problem but an Apple one.

Since I work at home and work with Outlook but I also use Gmail, I can tell you what I decided to do...so I have a Google account that is set both on my iPhone 4 and iPad with Google Moblie Sync which is like an Exchange account... I bought a software called gSyncit...its about 20$ and it syncs my Outlook (which is my default email, calendar and contacts software both for work and praivte use) with my Google Account and it works just AMAZIMG....now I bought it a few months ago, well before I had my iPhone and iPad....but, you can configure your Google Calendar to be your Calendar on iPhone/iPad and sync with it . Now I have all my Calenders synced so when I add an event in my Outlook it syncs with my Google Calendar and my Google Calendar syncs with my iphone/ipad Calender (through the exchange)....I know it might seem inafficiant but it actually works amazing!!! and its but better then iCloud...for me at least....the Google Mobile Sync can be found here http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
