Outlook 2010 SP1 Sync with the iCloud

Problem: Contacts do not sync. Calendar Items sync. They do not appear in iCloud.com or on my Iphone.

It appears items sync from the Iphone to the iCloud and to Outlook. The problem is items syncing from Outlook to the iCloud.

I rebooted the PC thinking it migh jump start the sync from Outlook to the iCloud.

I also tried unchecking Contacts in iCloud PC Control Panel, applied the change and then reverted the change hoping that woud jump start the sync from Outlook.

There are no errors.

iCloud Control Panel is installed

Windows 7 64 bit version SP1

Outlook 2010 Sp1is install (32 bit Version)

Outlook Itunes Addin is running

Outlook iCloud Addin is running

Outlook PST Maintenance

PST was compacted

Ran ScanPST with fix option to eliminate any PST issues

Itunes Configuration Information

Itunes is not configured to sync Contacts or Calendar

iCloud Windows Control Panel

Is set to sync Contacts and Calendar

Iphone 4 is set to sync with iCloud.

Any ideas would be appreciated

The other big issue with using Outlook and the Cloud is that every entry in the calendar hangs for a long time while trying to sync with the Cloud. Whether entries are made on my PC, my I Phone, my I pad, or my Mac, it takes forever now to make any calendar entries, as each one tries to sync (and does) before any other work can be done. It's about 20-30 secs per entry. What used to be a time saver is now a time waster.

For all the posts concerning their disappointment with the iCloud, please use this link, http://www.apple.com/feedback/

As for the concern on long sync, how do you determine the sync time. For me it is in the background. I can click an icon in Outlook to force a sync, so maybe that is what you are doing.

Do you use Exchange Server or POP / IMAP for mail delivery to Outlook?

For POP / IMAP delivery I would recommend that you create a new PST and only move active content to that PST. You will probably need to uninstall the iCloud PC applet prior to creating a new PST. I am wondering if there are corrupt entries in your calendar. I had some old entries that seemed to cause a problem andd once they were deleted the problem vanished.

If you are using Exchange you could still have corrupt calendar. Here you will need to move the calendar items to a PST. Delete all of the calendar items in the Exchange Calendar and then move them back and start the sync again.

There are more steps invloved in creating new PSTs and moving calendar items than I included above. I believe in ealrier posts I tried to document.

You may also want to delete all the entries in the iCloud and start fresh.

Always create backup copies of anything you plan to sync prior to syncing.

Good luck

I was submitting a bug report (https://bugreport.apple.com ) with Apple since I have stability issues with Outlook 2010 and the iCloud plugin.

I haven't figured out what's causing the instability (I'm running a 64 bit version of Outlook) nor has Apple replied.

The issue/bug has the following number (# 10407486 ). You can read the details below.

* Summary:

Current system setup:
MacBook Pro with OSx Lion
VMWare Fusion 3+
Windows 7 64 bit
Office 2010 32bit SP1 MSO
Outlook 2010 32 bit SP1 MSO
iCloud 1.0.1.29
iCloud Outlook Addin
Synchonization with Ms Exchange 2003 (default calendar) and separate Calendar for private appointments (as overlay) synchronized with iCloud.

I have installed the iCloud Outlook Addin and noticed the following so far:

1.) One thing that I see all the time when starting up Outlook (and clicking on my Calendar) is the following message: "Preparing calendar for first use"

2.) I was thinking of copying my private contacts and some private appointments to the iCloud server. I'm ending up seeing my 'work' and 'home' calender next to my current MSExchange Calendar in Outlook 2010. Synchronization seems to work fine : at least it syncs all the private data to my other Macbook and iPhone.

3.) Outlook has become unstable since I'm using the iCloud addin.

I'm have some questions about the following:

1) Is there a way to get rid of that "Preparing calendar ...." message (screenshot above)?
2) Is Outlook able to remember its last state (ie. the tabs that I was opening when leaving the program)?
3) Why is Outlook becoming unstable (it's not crashing all the time but it does a few times a week).

My eventvwr shows the following when Outlook has crashed:

The program OUTLOOK.EXE version 14.0.6025.1000 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Process ID: 1184
Start Time: 01cc9cde7a9a052a
Termination Time: 0
Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE
Report Id: 4a0da79b-0969-11e1-b824-00059a3c7a00

* Steps to Reproduce:

Install the software in the following environment:

MacBook Pro with OSx Lion
VMWare Fusion 3+
Windows 7 64 bit
Office 2010 32bit SP1 MSO
Outlook 2010 32 bit SP1 MSO
iCloud 1.0.1.29
iCloud Outlook Addin
Synchonization with Ms Exchange 2003

* Expected Results:

- Outlook is not showing "Preparing calendar ...." message every time when starting Outlook
- iCloud Outlook addin is not making Outlook 2010 unstable.

* Actual Results:

Outlook 2010 becomes unstable when using the iCloud addin. It crashed sometimes when switching between email and calendar view in Outlook 2010.

* Regression:

Notes:

I have found some info on the error:
