None of my passwords worked; not my computer password, not my wifi password, not any of my old or current iTunes passwords, arghhhh!! I'm stuck with a $1200 brick right now.
How is your phone a brick because you don't have the password to the encrypted back up? That doesn't make sense.
Have you review this article:
About encrypted backups in iTunes - Apple Support
It explains what to do if you forgot the passcode.

According to this, you may now be able to turn off encryption and create a new unencrypted backup if your device supports iOS 11.
That's pretty nifty. Good catch!
Your phone company is clueless. Yes, you can create a backup without the password. What you can't do is RESTORE the backup to your device or a new device without the backup password. But you can still back up and restore an iCloud backup instead of an iTunes backup.

Hello people, I don't know if you guys already had the answer for this situation, I just got the same issue and found that the password iTunes ask for when you connect the iPhone after the factory reset is the password you use when you start that computer
Yes, that's what it will be if that is the password you entered the first time you created an encrypted backup. But others have discovered different passwords, because they all entered different passwords the first time they were prompted.
If you would have bothered to read the posts in this thread you would be aware by now that it not possible.
For me it worked writing the 4 digit code to unlock my iPhone, on the bar that asks for the password. But that unlocking code wasn't from the iPhone I was restoring. Stranger things.
I eventually found mine by going through all my previous user account passwords... It was the first user password I used on my laptop when the phone was first connected and synced

I followed the advice posted. It is not my last email password, not my first, but my previuos.
It will always be whatever password you entered when you were prompted, the first time you made an encrypted backup.

yes this is true . you gotta use some sort of super old password you always use . try with or without capitals. i dont know but it works
Exactly. You must use the password that YOU ENTERED TWICE the first time you made an encrypted backup. It will never change, unless you explicitly click the "Change Password," enter the old password, then the new one.
You guess, as explained over and over in this message thread.
What is strange? It is the passcode that you entered the first time you made an encrypted backup. You entered it twice. Look 5 posts above yours for a sampling of the passcodes that people have used.
In that case, you will not be able to use that backup at all.
Unfortunately if you don't have the backup password on itunes you can't do the back up. This is what I was told by my phone company. But you can always try calling apple support and see how they can help you

However, the further instructions give a way to bypass it that requires "reset all settings." This is a partially destructive step, but I guess for some people it may be worth it.
It's easier than restoring the phone.

it's the 4 or 6 digit number passcode that you use to unlock your iphone
It is only that if you chose the same password for both. The password for my back up is not the same as the password I use to unlock my phone.
