None of my passwords worked; not my computer password, not my wifi password, not any of my old or current iTunes passwords, arghhhh!! I'm stuck with a $1200 brick right now.
How is your phone a brick because you don't have the password to the encrypted back up? That doesn't make sense.
Have you review this article:
About encrypted backups in iTunes - Apple Support
It explains what to do if you forgot the passcode.
Who did it then the gremlin in your pocket?
Someone had to do it. It can set itself.
You're the one directly contradicting yourself as to what you did... My perception of reality is fine thank you very much. Yours, on the other hand, seems to be seriously lacking.
Why do you believe so firmly that the dialog must always appear.
Are glitches impossible?
If you turned on encryption, you entered a password. What's 'glitching' is you, not iTunes.
Math.
The number of times dialogs for secure processes appearing when they are designed to vs. the number of times users blow past important dialogs and plead "it wasn't there...."
Not a fair fight.
Twice!
I double **** guarantee you that did not happen.
Regardless of your opinion, it did not happen
Regardless of your opinion it must have happened. There is no other explanation that passes the sniff test.

Awesome! Thank you!
+ many good karma points for you Lawrence.
Ha, I am proven correct, I did not enter a password, EVER!
My kid did, when they used the phone.
People are so quick to jump to conclusions
Cute. At least he is happy no matter how wrong he is.
Found it in Keychain Access on my Macbook, under iPhone Backup (You can simply reveal the password with the check box Show the password) - entering your unlocking mac code
Because that defeats the purpose of encryption. Not to mention it's not secure. If you enable the encryption, it's your responsibility to remember that password.
