Double Message Alerts with iPhone 4s.

I am having this issue and realized that if I turn OFF the vibrate with alerts, the double tone goes away. I do not like that, so I keep the vibrate on. But I also talked to an AT&T rep and he is having my phone replaced DOA. We have about 5 iPhone 4S's here at work and so far two have stared this issue. The others are good.

Hey people, I don't think this is a hardware issue; instead, I think this has to do with the configuration on the notifications center of iOS 5. By the way, do you have your messages app configured in the notifications center to be visible from the lock screen??... I don't, but I'm having a problem which is similar to yours (and which I didn't have before upgrading to iOS 5). My message alert rings first when the message is come, and then, when I unlock the screen, it rings again (at the same time there apears the little banner up in the screen). I'm thinking we have the same problem, but maybe you have your messages app configured to be visible from the lock screen, so that's why you have two rings almost overlapping to each other. The thing is that the problem is still unsolved, so please, if somebody knows how to fix this, let it show. (excuse my English)

I did a reboot and the double text alerts went away on my iPhone 4s as well. Will let you know if it comes back.

I just figured out how to fix this annoying problem. It seems to be a bug in iMessage. You have to first turn off iMessage, reboot the phone and if you want to continue to use iMessage turn it back on. The problem should go away.

I've had this problem for awhile. I'm in the uk with one of the first batches of the iPhone 4S. Hard reboot works for a few days then it comes back.

Same problem here with Verizon iPhone 4. Hard reboot works for a couple of days and the problem returns. Highly annoying! Any permanent solutions discovered?

It took a while, but the problem just come back on my phone. It happed with a Facebook notfication a few minutes ago and now all notifications are messed up. I'm going to try to turn Facebook notifications off and see if that makes any difference. In my experience Facebooks noifications are pretty erratic anyway. I'm curious, is there any consistency with with where the notifications are coming from the first time the problem occurs?

Has anyone actually found that a replacement phone fixes this problem? How many of you got your phones the first week or so? Is anyone having this problem who got their phone, say, two weeks ago or last week?

For the record, I got my the first day it shipped.

Have you tried the lates IOS 5.01 update? Supposed fix a lot of bugs.

Yes, I installed in on Thursday. It does not fix this. I decided to go to the Apple store today and see what they say.

I went to the Apple store and taked to the Genius there. He said I should try a full restore, not from back up. If that does not work, then they will give me a new iPhone. I'll post my results here, but it could take a while before I know anything.

I was having this problem, along with a whole list of others. Full restore did nothing. However, it does seem like a hard reboot fixes it. Who knows why.

Clearly, it is a software problem. ios5 is a mess.

I'm pretty sure that restore won't fix it, but I'm doing what I was told in case I need a new phone. The hard reboot works for a while, but it comes back, in my case after about 10 days.

I am having this issue as well. I've got iPhone4.. When I receive a message, the alert tone kind of stammers. Like a broken record or something..

Very annoying.. iOS 5.0.1 didnt fix it as well. 😟

When will 5.0.2 be available ? Any idea ??

i have been experiencing the exact same problem which i contacted apple they told me to do a full back up and restore the settings through my computer which i done, once this was complete my phone worked great for a day then started doing it again. i contacted apple again explained the situation because they had my details from calling last time they knew what i was talking about they told me they were gonna send me a brand new phone out as soon as possible and do a straight swap for my faulty one which i should recieve in the next couple of days. so i advise you to speak to apple they were great with me. hope this helps
