Can you turn off image stabilization on an iPhone 4S?

I've noticed that the iPhone 4S zooms in a fair amount with video due to it's stabilization feature when compared to stills. The video stabilization for the video camera is nice, but I'd like to be able to turn it off for when I want a wider frame without sacrificing detail caused by moving back further from the subject to frame up a shot while stabilization is on which makes the details in the image smaller.

I can't find a way to toggle video stabilization off. If it's not a feature, do 3rd party apps have the ability to record in 1080 with stabilization off?

Thanks!

I don't mind it so much but it would be nice to have 1080p raw "Apple" video without the mediocre software stabilization.

Yes, it would be nice to have *the option*. Getting raw 1080p without "mediocre software stabilization" is easy, just downgrade to an iphone 4.

In short, I think your case is a neat idea, and I'm glad to see it, but it doesn't solve any of the problems presented here.

iPhone 4 doesn't record in 1080p just to be clear.

The iPhone 4S stabilizes video by sending information from the gyro to the processor for correction. If you point your 4S out the window of a fast moving car, play the video back and pause it when you come up on a corner of a building that passes by. The building will be tilted toward the direction of where the car is moving or "skewed". On an iPhone "4", you can test using the same method and the edge of the building will be much more perpendicular to the ground.

Thanks. I think it's a neat idea too.
