New iPhone 4s - most calls connect without sound

Hi Guys

I've just purchased a brand new iPhone 4s from Vodafone, on most occaisions when I make an outbound call the call will connect but I can't hear anything unless I toggle the speakerphone on/ off. As soon as I do this everything is fine and i can hear the person I've just called (through the earpiece).

Seems to be 8 out of 10 calls made will behave like this. The rest of the time, the phone works as expected.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Note:

I've done a hard reset and restored from itunes with no luck.

The ear speaker works all the time for inbound calls

Any tips would be greatfully appreciated!

Update on my situation. I went to the Apple store (waited an hour past the initial appointment time). The individual who worked on the phone did a reset, and had me set it up as a new phone. He told me to just resynch - NOT restore. I did the initial restore on a backup from my 3G, and the Genius thought that might have been the issue. That solved the problem, but then I lost all the settings on the phone, which is a major pain in the posterior portion of the anatomy. While my phone is now working, I'm less than thrilled at having to do all the rework to get my phone back to the state that I had it. Apple needs to develop a better restore, perhaps with an option that allows you to get more of your settings back but not complete. The choice between re-sync and restore can be a painful one.

I've experienced a similar issue... When I attempt to place a call using my Apple Headphones, it will automatically place the call in speaker phone which then disables any microphone (phone or headset). When I pull the headset out and attempt to make another call it goes right back into speakerphone mode and disables the microphone. The only way to fix it (temporarliy) is to restart the phone.

This problem still exists even after I went through a new set up on the phone. Any suggestions? Or should I just go to the Genius Bar?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi

So it would appear that I'm not alone in this problem!

I travelled to my nearest Apple Store today and the guy suggested that it was most likely a software issue on the phone. He offered to do a low level reset which rebuilds the device at a lower level than can be done with itunes.

On the basis that this may/ may not have resolved the problem and that I live a fair bit away from the store he decided instead to give me a replacement iPhone (Yay!).

Suggest you make an appointment and see an Apple Genius.

I cannot fault their customer service in any way. Well done Apple.
