New iPhone 4s - most calls connect without sound

Hi Guys

I've just purchased a brand new iPhone 4s from Vodafone, on most occaisions when I make an outbound call the call will connect but I can't hear anything unless I toggle the speakerphone on/ off. As soon as I do this everything is fine and i can hear the person I've just called (through the earpiece).

Seems to be 8 out of 10 calls made will behave like this. The rest of the time, the phone works as expected.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Note:

I've done a hard reset and restored from itunes with no luck.

The ear speaker works all the time for inbound calls

Any tips would be greatfully appreciated!

Having exact same issue 4S, black iPhone 64GB bought in Nov 2011. 90% of my calls won't go through. This is painful. This needs to become a '"verified" issue by now. Geesch. Look how many people are having the same issue.

Reset All Settings only worked for about 24 hours for me. Back to not working again. Reset Network Settings for me did not help at all. Next step is full restore, but that will be painful, as I have so much data to synch. Ugh.

How I solved this problem:

It's actually a temporary bug fix. When you are calling somebody, just toggle on and off the speaker button then there will be no problems already.

If you are having carrier/sim card not detected issues,

How I solved this problem:

1) Whenever I encountered this problem, I navigate to Settings -> General -> Network -> Enable Cellular Data.

2) When the carrier is "loaded", disable the Cellular Data again if you are not on a data plan to avoid unnecessary charges.

Got my phone replaced today -finally- and so far it's working pretty good. No call issues and the battery drain is significantly improved.

Advice: REPLACEMENT.

My father's 4S experience is exactly like yours. The carrier replaced it hesistantly but the new replacement 4S still have the same problems. The temporary fix is also to disable and enable the cellular data. I'm suspecting it is a software issue. The first 4S is 5.0.1 and the replacement 4S is 5.0.0 but both experienced the same issues.

Apple should really fix this issue or else this is the last of Steve Job's legacy. I'm not an Apple product user but I'm forced to learn all this because my father keeps on bugging me to fix his iphone. I told him to wait for the Galaxy S3 or Sony Xperia since my Galaxy S2 is very stable if he wants to replace his iphone.

I still don't understand why people are dying to get this phone.
