How can I upload files to iCloud?

The iPad as with so many apple products these days are just fancy packaging. I really wanted to move a spreadsheet onto my iPad and then use it to take inventory at work. Sadly the process involved to make that happen is so convoluted that I would be far better off buying a windows tablet or cheap laptop. The iPad is not a tool for anything other than entertainment. It amazes me that the controls for so many apple products can be so intuitive at the interface level but when you get in depth it gets so convoluted and difficult to do things that should be simple. The company I work for is looking at using some sort of portabledevice to assist with inventory, I will definitely suggest against iPad.

Hit the nail on the head there. If you need Excel then forget about iPads. Lots of new compatible tablets will be available soon.

The sheer stupidity of forcing Apple users to use iWork ('cos it's so cross platform, isn't it) & not simply making a mobile version of the de-facto productivity suite, Office, available is not going to help Apple out, especially when the new Windows mobile OS comes in.

I wanna chime in. Why on Earth would we want to pay for additional storage on a cloud drive when they take away the sole purpose of cloud computing: remote storage that can be accessed from anywhere, on any device! No, I do not want to use Pages, Numbers, or Keynote. I just want to use the storage that I am paying for to store and access my documents, safely without the need for me to carry around a flash drive. This really does seem backward to the whole premise of cloud storage. If I had the functionality of iDisk, then I would be apt to purchace iWorks, for the sole purpose that it would be cool to have them sync'd to all my devices; TO LOOK AT! I am quite upset. But since I can't use the iCloud storage as a repository for any and all documents, it isn't worth much to me. Sorry Apple, epic fail.

The upload button on my idisk no longer work so I have just signed up to SkyDrive (7gb free). For the first time in my life I am using Windows Live and have a free .live email address. Is this good for Apple?

Shame about idisk, icloud is no use to me because I share illustrations, animations and films, not iworks files. In order to keep my .mac email address am I now paying for storage space that I cant use? Apple used to understand what creatives need. I have used macs since operating system 6.

You need to migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud at http://me.com/move if you want to keep your @me.com/@mac.com address. iCloud is free at basic level.

As a long time Apple user, I have to say that this really is not good.

I have almost 20GB of paid-for iDisk space that is soon to become unusable for document storage. Please rethink this crazily stupid move.

How can storing one's own docs in the cloud be something Apple don't want us to do, unless they happen to be iWork docs? That's just dumb. I have all sorts of files I need to transfer between my devices. iDisk worked like a charm.

Shame on you Apple for not implementing iDisk functionality in iCloud. 😮 😟

Not seen it mentioned here, but on iPad, got to Settings, in Apps check the iWork app eg, Pages. On the right of that page, set Use iCloud to ON.

On your iMac, log in to iCloud, select iWorks tab. You obviously need Pages etc on your Mac. You should then see any Pages docs synchronised on both your Mac and your mobile device. Works (s'cuse the pun) for me!

I had a little business website that I published using iWeb and my Apple account. Now that will no longer be hosted. A major pain in the a$% to have to purchase hosting for my site and learn how to upload all the files using NameCheap.

Now, I discover that I can no longer store files on iDisk. What good is iCloud? I need to store audio clips and graphics and let associates download them.

Apple, you guys are idiots. I purchased my first Mac in 1987 and have been using only Macs ever since. I used to love the company. You screwed up Final Cut Pro, took away my webpage and now I pay to not be able to store and exhange files?

Apple, just because you folks sell a lot of iPhones you think you can abandon your long-time customer base. Some of use your products to actually get some work done. Or, we used to.

"Currently, the only apps that work with Documents in the Cloud are Apple’s iWork apps, which includes Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. However, Apple has released an API to third-party developers who want to incorporate this into their own apps, so we’ll hopefully see more iCloud compatibility in the future. Since third-party apps are currently not available for document syncing, it is unclear whether sharing documents between a computer and an iOS device for third-party apps will also need to use a web browser. It will most likely, however, be a similar process."

I've been clinging onto iDisk all year, but with only one week to go I bit the bullet and downgraded to iCloud. I backed up all my iDisk docs and have just spent 30 mintues trying to find a way to drag and drop 10 years of work into iCloud. w.t.f?? No document storage in iCloud?? They didn't say that in any of the propaganda. So everything that was useful has been dumped! All I can do now is sync ical and my photos. Big deal - my work provides free ical syncing through MS Exchange anyway.

Can anyone explain what iCloud does that they couldn't achieve with iDisk?? Now I can no longer update a file on the macbook and have my secretary print it out within seconds at the office. All the files she creates will have to be emailed to me, so I can then waste my time doing "save as" into the clients folders. And we will be constantly disrupted by not knowing who is looking at the most recent version of a file. This is a disaster. In my 22 years of using a Mac I have never seen anything so dumb. And to make it even more bitter, I just spent a lot of time and expense upgrading all the imacs and macbooks to Lion so we can use iCloud, and lost many useful programs and functionalities in the progress (bye bye Eudora, Fetch, Nvu, external fax modem, old HP scanner etc). How I wish I had kept Snow Leopard!

iCloud:

• Allows you to sync your calendars between your Mac(s) and iOS devices.

• Ditto with Safari bookmarks
• Provides a conduit which copies photos taken on any one device onto all the others
• Provides a fairly basic photo gallery (populated only from iPhoto for iOS)

• Syncs iWork documents (only) between your Mac and your iPhone

I tried uploading pages document to icloud using a mac, but looks like I will have to update to Mountain Lion, before I can do that. Currest os 10.7 lion does not support icloud. It keeps showing me iwork options which will be discontinued as of July 31, 2012 as per an email from Apple today.

Wrong. 10.7.2 Lion and above does support icloud. You can't upload to icloud using the pages menu, YET. That's coming in 10.8 Mountain Lion. For now, you have to open safari, go to icloud.com, click iwork, and drag a document, spreadsheet, or presentation into the window. Why is this hard to understand?

The email you got was referring to iwork.com, a beta for document sharing that is totally separate from mobile and icloud. They are getting rid of iwork.com because you will have "save to icloud" as an option in your menu bar with 10.8.

Wesley, I understand I need to drop the document, but everytime I drop a pages or Numbers file, it says "There was a problem uploading your document, Please try again later" It shows me the % uploading first and then it gives me this error. So I am guessing the Mountain Lion update would help solve this problem, unless you have a solution for the same.
