How do I get rid of "other" storage

How do I get rid of "other" storage or why is there so much dedicated to it?

PLEASE HELP! 😟

I have an iPod touch 32Gb 4th generation with:

- 19Gb of music

- 2Gb of TV Shows

- 3Gb of Apps

- 3.3Gb of "Other"

Here is the troubleshooting attempted:

- Not syncing music or TV Shows. Result: I still have 2.1Gb of "Other

- Not syncing apps. Results: No difference

- Restoring iPod with lastest backup: No difference

- Restoring iPod from scratch and putting back everything back on: No difference.

I am out of ideas.

Please, please help!

Thanks.

I've tried everything I can find in these forums and every idea I can think of. The only thing that works is to backup your ipad/iphone via iTunes, wipe the device (erase all content and settings through "settings" --> reset) and then restore the clean device from your backup.

The fix is not permanent though. My ipad had 15GB of other back in March, and now - just 5 months later - it's up to 17 GB of other. Just finished my second backup/wipe/restore of 2014. Had to do it for iphone a month ago (just 4 months after the last time).

I never had this issue with iOS 6. I think its an issue with iOS 7.

I did this as Brian instructed and it deleted 6 GB of "Other" data on my iPhone 5. Everything is restored - at least so far as I can tell - from my apps, etc. I will expect to do this more frequently in the future. I have PhoneClean, and even on the "Deep Clean" setting, it only removed 1.5 MB of this "Other" data. Thanks! Just make sure you back your phone up first.

I just used iMazing on a 15 day trial, it accessed my iPhones file structure and I found I had 33GB's of Music which wasn't been identified. I took the plunge and just selected all and hit delete. Its took about 15 seconds and immediately restored the iTunes summary as accurate.

It must not have liked me deleting all my music...

Really?

Hey Zydratelove, That much "other" would indicate corrupt file(s), probably hiding in your backup. When you stated you ran a "full system reset" did you mean a full Restore to New? If you didn't do that, even if you did, do that! Do a Restore to New (factory restore), do not use the Restore from Backup, (if it is a corrupt file you're just putting it back on your iPod). Instead give this a try; make backups of all your stuff onto your computer first, via the cable, so you don't lose information, (photos, music from sources outside iTunes, apps, contacts, etc. Then with the iPod connected to your computer with the cable, Restore to New through iTunes, as if this was your first iPod ever. Then without using the backup, reinstall all the info, your stuff on the iPod manually. (I know-- it's slow and a bit of a pain). Then check that all is working as it should, and that all you want is on the iPod. Your "other" should be down around 1.5G to 2G+/-. (You never get rid of all other, it contains none category information, usually stuff that comes with apps, music, etc... imbedded data that is necessary for the operation of your iPod.) If all checks out, then make a new backup for the future. Hope this helps, Cheers.

Hi there. Have had the same issue a couple of times. Suddenly 85GB of Other data appears and my 76GB of music won't sync/partially syncs. Have restored the phone with success for a couple of weeks, and then the problem dropped in again. Am now trying a restore from backup and have reinstalled itunes too. Applecare have been through this with me on the phone. So far seems ok. (iPhone 6Plus 128GB)

Steps are: Restore phone from backup - disconnect phone from itunes after software has been extracted - reinstall itunes - reconnect phone - continue restore from backup.

Good luck!

I have found a different path of getting rid of "other" - at least it worked for me....

Instead of doing the iDevice Reset/Restore from Backup that is published everywhere and seems to only last for a short time before "other" creeps up again in a few syncs, I actually went onto Apple.com and downloaded/reinstalled iTunes and my "other" disappeared and has actually stayed gone!

Details:

1. Go to Apple.com

2. Click on Support in the upper right of the webpage

3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to Resources, and click Downloads and Updates

4. Download the latest iTunes

5. Find downloaded file and double click it to reinstall iTunes following prompts

This process did not take long, I did not have to remove any cache, cookies, scores, restore, etc.... Hope this works for you too!
