iPhone 4s Car Bluetooth Audio Source Issues

I see that a lot of people are having issues pairing their new phones with Bluetooth devices. I have discovered a problem that I haven’t seen discussed anywhere yet.

I have the iPhone 4s and a 2011 GMC Sierra.

No issue with pairing the 4s with the truck.

Bluetooth works fine with Siri and outgoing calls.

When I receive an incoming call it comes across the truck’s speakers and I am able to answer. The problem is that after about 5 seconds of talk time the phone switches to the “phone” audio source and the radio comes back on. The call is not dropped and if I manually select the “Bluetooth” audio source the call jumps back to the truck’s Bluetooth system and I can finish the call with no problems.

Not a massive issue, but it is pretty annoying. Anybody else experience this? Tips or Fixes?

I am having the same issue with my 2011 VW Jetta SEL.

I can make calls but receiving them has been sporadic at best.

Seeing all of the posts I think the fix will have to come from Apple.

You know the old saying "the squeeky wheel gets the oil", I think this is the only resolution.

We will have to continue to complain untill this is resolved.

To all,

I was able to fix my bluetooth problem, at least for now. I went to an Apple store, explained my issue, and they at first recommended a new phone. When they found out the phone was out of warranty, they said I would have to pay or they could try a software reboot. I had nothing to lose so we did the reboot and I have not had a problem since.

I have had this same problem with my 4S and 2012 Cadillac CTS, service dept, Onstar and Apple all blamed each other GM also has an internal document with this subject on connectivity Issues with several different smartphones #PIC5504C. After reading all these post I tried the hard reboot and it works fine now, if I have the issue again I will update in the future.

I too have been having problems with my iPhone 4S and my MY2011 Skoda Yeti.

My iphone 4 worked flawlessly.

I have had it replaced by Apple with a 4S. I am running 5.1.1.

The phone could make outgoing calls via the car, but would not relay incomming calls via the car, and would show up on audio sources as iphone and not Skoda_BT.

I have reset the device several times and deleted the pairing. I have today found another phone which I used to pair with the car and deleted my phone's profile, so I could start again.

So far, it has worked, as it a made a call and asked them to ring me back, which they did and it automaticaaly came though the car like it should, but I had not disconnected inbetween. I will do another check later.

We just bought a 2012 Nissan Quest (May 2012) and I got my iPhone 4S for Christmas 2011, and it's up to date with iOS 5.1.1. I paired the phone successfully, was able to make calls, then all of a sudden I no longer get audio from the car speakers. The handsfree dialing works, but the audio remains on the phone. I've tried deleting the pairing and re-pairing the phone, same thing, no audio. I even tried turning off Siri as other suggested, didn't help, still NO AUDIO! I even tried using the phone keypad to toggle the mute and speaker on and off...guess what, STILL NO AUDIO IN THE CAR. I thought it might be an issue with my Quest, but after reading these posts, sounds like it's an issue with the phone. I plan to hit the Apple Store tomorrow and talk to someone, find out the real deal. My wife needs a new phone and the Quest is her primary vehicle, I was excited to think she could use the iPhone for handsfree calling, but who knows. Maybe I should check out an Android!?!? Better yet, Apple, just fix the issue please.

Same problem on brand spanking new 2013 Kia Sorento; can make outgoing calls, but after a succesful incoming call through the car speakers, the next incoming call only vibrates my phone. The pairing still shows as connected, and the car has "turned off" my phone ringer, but no audio through the car speaker system. My wife and I both have iPhone 4s' and she has similar problems in the same car. She's also noted that playing a CD cuts off her iPhone connection. The technology would be wonderful.....if it worked.

To follow up on my, I ended up visiting the Apple Store. The techy kid there told me it was a software issue with the BTS (Blue Tooth Server) and that I needed to reinstall the iOS. Using iTunes, I backed up my phone, used the Restore functionality, then reloaded my phone from the backup after iOS 5.1.1 installed. After doing that, I walked out to the car and could make and recieve a call just fine. So that fixed it. Unfortunately, the person on the other end can barely hear me (sounds all static), so not sure if it's the BT in the iPhone 4S or the brand new Nissan Quest's microphone. Who knows, but the issue was resovled but using the phone to make a hands-free call is pointless. *****.

I have exactly the same problem with a 4s and a 2010 BMW 3 Series and it is driving me mad. Apple refuse to accept there is an issue, they have changed my phone twice to no avail. My iPhone 4 works perfectly. There appears nowhere to go with this now, but it renders my 4s in the car almost useless, to the point where I have to divert my phone to another phone that does work properly, but what a pain. Apple, you have a BIG problem and you need to sort it NOW.
