iPhone 4s Car Bluetooth Audio Source Issues

I see that a lot of people are having issues pairing their new phones with Bluetooth devices. I have discovered a problem that I haven’t seen discussed anywhere yet.

I have the iPhone 4s and a 2011 GMC Sierra.

No issue with pairing the 4s with the truck.

Bluetooth works fine with Siri and outgoing calls.

When I receive an incoming call it comes across the truck’s speakers and I am able to answer. The problem is that after about 5 seconds of talk time the phone switches to the “phone” audio source and the radio comes back on. The call is not dropped and if I manually select the “Bluetooth” audio source the call jumps back to the truck’s Bluetooth system and I can finish the call with no problems.

Not a massive issue, but it is pretty annoying. Anybody else experience this? Tips or Fixes?

I have the same problems with my new Honda Odyseey Touring. I took it into the dealer today and they said the bluetooth worked fine with every oter phone they tried it with. I got in the car and was no more than one minute into a call and the car forgot that my phone was connected mid-call, a few seconds later, my phone was found again and I could again hear the call. It happened two other times and then I started holding my phone, just in case. As long as I helpd my phone, the bluetooth stayed connecteed. Weird.

APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. It is unsafe and illegal to talk on cellphones in Delaware without bluetooth.

I have this problem with both a 07 mercedes and the 2010 Kenwood deck in my truck. Incoming calls go to phone, I have to change audio source and then it will "usually' go to car's bluetooth. Outgoing calls hop onto bluetooth 95% of the time. There are times when the phone will refuse to change sources (to the car's audio) even when paired.

I will give the default source option few days to see how it shakes out.

I have finally solved the Bluetooth problem with my 4S and my 2011 GMC Sierra. I was having another unrelated problem with my phone's ability to make regular outgoing calls so I took it to the Apple store and talked them into replacing the phone with a new one. It's been two weeks and I have not had a single issue since. I wanted to wait and try it out for a bit before reporting to make sure it wasn't going to start up at some point. I have used the Bluetooth feature every day (including hands-free dialing and Siri) and have not had a single problem. Obviously still using the same OS version so it has to be a hardware glitch of some sort. Good luck to everyone else!

My problem has always been toggling between phone and music. If I don't play music from my phone I am fine. If I do, I lose the phone connection.

With iOS5 it can no longer recognize two separate Bluetooth connections from the same device.

It is not my phone because it is the same phone I had before the update.

Is anyone else having that specific problem?

Add Nissan to the list of cars. I have a 2008 Nissan Sentra and an Iphone 4. The Bluetooth system worked great until a couple of months ago when I started experiencing calls that would revert back to the phone. Now, the phone and the car tell me everything is paired but I cannot get audio. I tried to delete and re-pair without success. I cannot get the car to receive keypad inputs, either after the phone is paired.

I also have a bluetooth receiver connected to the stereo and I cannot connect to that either. My wife has a 4S phone and she can. We both are using OS5. I have not tried her phone in my car.

I'm having a similar issue, both my wife and I have iPhone 4s's. It's only my phone that has issues connecting to Bluetooth call when in coming in our 2010 jetta. My wife's phone connects no problems.

My phone doesn't show any audio sources when a call comes in, I can only talk through the phone.

Both phones have the same software, nothing is different between them.

Any ideas what could cause the issue or what I could do.

I am having the same issue. When I was in my car bluetooth would work, but when I was outside the car (the car was off) my phone does not work, I can make and recieve calls, but they cannot hear me. I resolved this by turning off the phone and back on. However it constaintly fails when using bluetooth acura mdx 2008 then using the phone outside the car.

It does not matter if Sri is on or off.

I have the same issue, iPhone 4S with new Chevy Captiva in Thailand. iOS 4 worked flawlessly - still does with my wife's iPhone 4; but when I updated iPhone 3GS to new iOS 5.1 - Bluetooth wouldn't work. Then I had the bright idea to buy iPhone 4S and the bluetooth still doesnt connect. I have to believe that iOS 5.1 has a problem in BT protocol.

Please Apple if you're reading this - fix this problem..

Obviously a different problem. I got a new phone this week and the problem still exists. I cannot have both my phone and my music on the phone connected at the same time.

So, if I want to listen to music, I will not get phone calls. To use the phone I have to disconnect the audio.

THIS WAS NOT THE CASE UNTIL 5.0 was released. It worked perfectly with a 3G and a 4 until then. Now using a new 4 and it has been a problem with both 4 models.
