iPhone 4s Car Bluetooth Audio Source Issues

I see that a lot of people are having issues pairing their new phones with Bluetooth devices. I have discovered a problem that I haven’t seen discussed anywhere yet.

I have the iPhone 4s and a 2011 GMC Sierra.

No issue with pairing the 4s with the truck.

Bluetooth works fine with Siri and outgoing calls.

When I receive an incoming call it comes across the truck’s speakers and I am able to answer. The problem is that after about 5 seconds of talk time the phone switches to the “phone” audio source and the radio comes back on. The call is not dropped and if I manually select the “Bluetooth” audio source the call jumps back to the truck’s Bluetooth system and I can finish the call with no problems.

Not a massive issue, but it is pretty annoying. Anybody else experience this? Tips or Fixes?

Yes - same problem as me. Like you have experienced, and as I said in my previous post turning off Siri seemed to help for a day or two or until you turn the phone off and back on, but then the problem comes back. Good to know that replacing the phone doesn't help as I haven't tried that yet. I have logged the problem with Apple support but no response as yet. I am going to call them back when I have some time in the next few days. They must know about this now as it's not just affecting VW bluetooth kits, it's also affecting Kia, Toyota and also Parrot after market kits as well. I understand GMC trucks and Chevrolets in the US are having similar problems. I think we can only hope the 5.0.2 update (allegedly coming very soon) or 5.1 (due in the new year I believe) will fix this.

I have a new BMW X3 and have intermittent issues with Bluetooth not interfacing with audio on incoming and outgoing calls. There is no pattern to the errors - it just does it when it wants. I have had the audio checked over by BMW and everything is up to date and the car model is fully compatible with iPhone 4S. I swapped the phone out for a new one - now its even worse!! There has to be some issues with the new Bluetooth 4 low power adoption.

I think this is defo a Phone rather than car issue - not sure if it is software or hardware.

I have changed the default setting too and although it sometimes works as it should, most of the time it doesn't. Given that so many different makes of car seem to be affected it would seem to suggest that it's definitely an iOS5 and iPhone 4 issue. I didn't have this problem with iOS5 on my iPhone 3GS but I do now since I got my iPhone 4S.

I have had the same issues with my 2010 Kia Soul, connected to an iPhone 4S with bluetooth, and had not had this issue with the same car with my iPhone 3G. I have restored my phone to factory settings, restored my phone as New, exchanged my phone out with a replacement phone, hard booted the phone, cleared the cache, etc, etc, etc... I still have this issue... When I spoke to Apple they said I have done all I can to remedy the issue via Apple, and NOT to set the incoming call function of the phone to Headset as another post said to do...

When I spoke to Kia they said they have been flooded with calls with the same issues you discussed with the incoming calls intermittently going to the iPhone setting on the phone and not the Bluetooth setting in the phone, and for approx 10 seconds from receiving a call cannot change off the iPhone setting... Apple says its a problem with Kia's Bluetooth program, and Kia said it is a problem with the Apple firmware... Any remedy's that work would be appreciated.
