Magic Mouse's cursor doesn't move (but clicking works)

Two of my magic mice suddenly don't work anymore: the cursor does not move but left and right clicking and scrolling work.

I tested both of them with new batteries both on my MacPro and MBP.

A third MM (newest) works fine; so I must assume that the others (>1 year old) have a hardware malfunction which leads me to the question if I should buy a new MM or choose another product.

Does anyone have similar problems; what other cordless mice would you recommend?

Make sure it isn't a Software problem first, so you don't go out any needlessly but a new mouse. For me, my MM suddenly wouldn't click. It would track but not click on anything.

I found a fix on this website:

It worked for me! Opened System Prefs, unclicked Secondary Click, REBOOTed machine, Re-clicked Secondary Click. All better! I suppose trashing prefs would work too, but then you would loose other settings.

(SOLVE) hi, i have the same problem, cursor cannot move but still can do clicking.
Here's how i solve the problem

- turn on your magic mouse, put off one battery dan switch the position, after that put off and than put it back in the previous position, turn off the magic mouse and turn on again, Its work on my magic mouse. Thx,

I had the same problem as all of you: Scrolling and clicking works, but cursor movement does nothing. My laser in my mouse doesn't even turn on. By the sounds of it, and with multiple replies here showing people on their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mouses, it appears that it's a production issue. I wouldn't buy this mouse again unless it has a five year warranty. One year is not enough. It's a shame because it really is an excellent mouse otherwise.
