Are you certain they have set up their accounts correctly? If they are running iOS 5 and have signed in with their Apple ID and supplied iMessage with their relevant email addresses, it should work without any issues. Please verify that they've done this, if you haven't already.
i cant because first when im about to sign in it will let you type wat email you will use and then it would take me back to the sign in page sometimes then wen i do stay inthe verify page it wont send me an email
i think it send me an email because i already got one but i verify it but it wont activate
You can only use emails under ONE apple ID. If it says the email is already in use, this is because it is verified under a previous apple ID. You need to go to "Manage my Apple ID", sign in with this old Apple ID, and remove the "additional email address" from that Apple ID before you can add it to the newer one.
If you are unable to send iMessages to email addresses that you know are verified, the person on the other end might simply have to go into their own settings and turn iMessage on... this might be why some 5.0 OS iMessage email addresses will show up red instead of the beautiful blue we hope for.
Good luck!
Hi, I recently got an I touch . However I'm trying to Imessage a friend on her iphone and I cant sent her a message because the send button is disabled. I was able to send other Iphone users messages and it does work. Can you please help me solve the issue .. Thanks
I believe I understand how iMessage works and the requirement of it.
1. iMessage only works among users who have registered an iMessage Caller ID. Basically, you are messaging (through Apple iMessage server) against the iMessage caller IDs.
2. To register an iMessage caller ID, you must have an Apple device that is running iOS5 or above. You also need an Apple Store ID and password to log into the Apple iMessage server. Your default iMessage caller ID is your phone number (if an iPhone), or Apple Store ID (email account), or other email account you added in the Setting ->Message -> Receive at setup. You can also change to not use the default from the same place, when you have phone number and/or added multiple email accounts.
3. If you have multiple iOS5 devices and all use the same Apple Store ID, you would want to make sure their iMessage caller ID not to be overlapped.
4. Without a device with iOS5, you are not able to register an iMessage Caller ID and can not participate in the iMessage exchange.
5. When iMessage others, select their iMessage Call ID (be it iphone number, or email accout - depends how their iMessage caller ID are registered) from your contact.
6. Because the iMessages are exchanged through the Apple iMessage server, not SMS of the cell carrier, not relevant to how you connect (3G or wifi, etc) to Apple server either, it does not work with none Apple device.
Hope this helps.
Hi, to add contacts you go to the contacts app on your iPod touch.
If you want to message someone who has an iPhone you can use their number or the Apple ID they use for iMessage.
If you want to message someone who has an iPod touch you use their Apple ID ONLY.
Hope this helps
Try this everybody.
Go to your Address Book on your device (iPad, iTouch, etc.). Now find the person in the list that you wish to make contact with. Add, to this contact, the email he is using as a username to his Apple ID.
Note: the person you are trying to contact needs an Apple ID and iMessage in the first place for you to send messages to him through your device.
So say for example, I have an account with Apple - along with it is my Apple ID and my password. My Apple ID is my email address ili*******m@gmail.com. This email address is also used to sign into my iMessage as everything of Apple is connected via one account. So then you are trying to contact me through iMessage. We both have iMessage and an Apple ID. You go into your address book, find my name, and add my email address (my Apple ID). Upon saving, you go back to iMessage, compose a new message. Click on the blue plus sign in the circle, click on my name, Ili Mustafa. And from there, you are given a choice to send it to my mobile number or my email. Click on my email. VOILA!! Type in your message and click send!!
Disappointingly this seems to be the case, and, if it remains so, makes iMessaging pretty useless for a wider world of contact. Right now I have no one else who has ML installed or who is likely to install it for some time. I need messaging that allows me to talk to anyone through all systems and platforms. So we have yet another limited use Apple app to languished unused on our laptops.

That's called "email". And there are other avenues such as AOL Messenger, etc, besides regular texting and actually making a phone call.
iMessage as far as I understand it is to txt WITHOUT incurring txt fees by using Apple servers. It requires an Apple device running IOS5 or Mountain Lion.
I'm guessing ATT, Verizon, et al would be VERY unhappy if an Apple user could txt anyone on another system without incurring a txt fee.
So, consider iMessage a freebie to use in the Apple world only. Even there, it requires the recipient to have iMessage turned on.
AFYI, it's not lanquishing on my devices.
My partner and I have and iPhone each plus we have one iPad plus one iMac all runing the latest OS's and all are logged in with the same apple ID. (different iPhone phone numbers of course) We have exactly the same iPhone setups as far as iMessage and iCloud and apple ID go, but I can send an iMessage to my iPhone from the iPad (home WiFi) but not to his iPhone. This also includes from the iMac ( home WiFi).
I'm having what may be the same difficulty. I have multiple verified apple ID's, two of them have confirmation email for iCloud activation from Apple. Of the two confirmed email, iCloud, Apple ID's .... one works and the other does not. The one which does not work will not enable the "send" button in iMessage and iMessage returns a warning that "...the email address is not registered with iMessage."
If I try to insert a second email address into the "receive at" field in iMessage it returns an error "This email address is already in use." This happens to each address in turn, if I enter one as primary in "receive at" it is accepted and the other is rejected as a second address.
For what it's worth, you can text ANY cell phone number (regardless of if they have iMessage, iPhone, Blackberry, etc.) using AIM.
Edit the person's contact card in the "Contacts" application on your Mac. Next to "AIM" in the "user name" field, add the person's cell phone number. **You must add a +1 before the person's 10-digit cell phone number. So the AIM user name, for example, is:
+19001001234
Now go back to iMessages, type that person's name in the "To" field and select the new +1 AIM number. Voila. Free texting to any cell number!
Drew,
Sounds good, but I've followed your instructions from April 17 and now the message text entry field says in light grey text "AIM offline". I don't use AIM (not sure what it means TO use it), perhaps that is the problem?
Ok I've sorted it got it sorted on iPhone /iPad/iPod,
Had tio reset the phone and iPod but its working now.
You can only use it with the people that have activated the Imessage on the device.
Only works with people that have I devices
no duh. it the same responce you get everywhere. serriously though; how do you register a phone number with imessage. when you try to message a phone/ipad with it's linked number, how does that user register their device so you're number is in iMessage. It has the option to add Emails... and I have no problem with the emails... so I don't need advice conserning the emails. All I am asking is if there is a way to actually register a number; or is that a serious problem on Apple's behalf?
