Contacts app crashes on ipad 2 with ios 5?

Hi,

I've recently bought an ipad 2 and updated to ios 5. icloud is set up, my gmail account is set up as well.

The settings are the same as the ones on my iphone 4 (ios 5, icloud, gmail account)

I noticed a few days ago that I was unable to access contacts, as well as mail, contacts and calendar setup anymore on the ipad 2 - apps or set ups crash.

I can download emails from my gmail account, yet I can't select a contact without the mail app crashing.

Everything works just fine on iphone.

Any idea what I can do to get contacts to work properly?

Many thanks

Cyril

'Contacts' crashes.

In 'settings' - 'Mail, contacts. calendars' crashes

When I try to email photos - crashes

I've tried 'reset' from the ipad menu - waste of time - still the same

I've tried ALL the suggestions I've found - wast of time

all in all quite a useless thing - do i bin it?

and still no help from apple - do they want us to pay for support to sort out their poor programming issues?

Hi - I posted on this before, but then bit the bullet and did a full restore, setting it up as a new device when the option comes up in the process, and it worked.

I dont know all the things offered in this thread, but another thing to try would be to uninstall iTunes and re-install before doing the full blown restore. Apologies if you've tried these. A proper uninstall of iTunes means you need to remove all 6 Apple software installs before re-installing. (Quicktime, Apple App Support, iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour). I know its a pain but it worked for me, and it was Apple that advised it.

If your iPad is under 90 days old you get free support, which I didnt know until I contacted them thru Apple Support website, where I entered my phone number and they rang me. Think it was called Express Lane once you register.

Again, sorry if this is all history, just the things that worked for me.

Hi, this solve for now but lost everything, so you have to backup your data use third party app explorer or other.

1. Do clean restore

2. At first time don't setup iCloud when ask

3. Do not setup iTunes automatically sync, turn off all iTunes sync when iPad connect (application, music, video, contact, etc)

4. Use third party applications to copy songs, video, contact, or other into iPad/iPhone/iPod touch, until Apple fix this problem hope

5. Turn off all Contact in Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars

6. Do not sync or backup Contact use iTunes

Hope this help

I removed all apple software from pc and reinstalled itunes etc.

I reset the ipad2 and set it up as a new ipad.

I connected the ipad2 to the pc with usb cable.

I reinstalled all the aps from itunes - software managed to do it all as one install.

Set up my mail - hotmail - and imported my contacts .

It all seems to work now.

I can access 'contact'

I can access 'mail, contacts, calenders' under the 'settings' icon.

I can email from apps like 'photos'

So far so good ... let see if it stays working.

I am not using icloud as this is where the problems started.

I use 'drop box' - free and it works.

Cost - half a day x how many 10'000's of people with same problem.

The lure of replacing my pc with a mac has very quickly disappeared.
