Until this BUG is fixed, if you're using Windows 7 then you can download Windows Live Movie Maker for free here: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials-movie-maker-get-started (you have to download windows live essentials, but if you just want movie maker, you can untick the other programs in essentials before installation:

When you open Windows Live Movie Maker and import your video, you can rotate it by using the rotate buttons as below.

(Wow it's upright! Lucky Windows 7's Snip program doesn't use EXIF... or does it??...)

And thanks for the Movie Maker idea. I actually found this, and it does work brilliantly... but it still re-processes the image which will inevitably reduce the quality. Which is a real shame. (and the resulting files are massive!). It is by far the best solution I have found so far though.

How are you testing Windows 7 Snip? Are you turning the monitor upside down, or standing on your head? ;-) I bet in neither situation do the icons on the snipping tool rotate to look the right way up like they do on the iPhone!

i am having the same problem with trying to rotate a picture once it has been imported the desktop , i have notified apple about this problem, if i have a picture that is upside down i try to rotate it but when i move to the next pic i get the error msg that there is a problem with the photo,s file properties.

apple have advised me that its something wrong with windows 7 , and i should try it on a different computer, anyway i hav tryed the same thing on the laptop which is using windows xp and im still getting the same error message , so its got me buggered !

This problem did not happen with my iphone 3 nor did it happen with my iphone 4 , the 4s is the one it wont work !

We all have the same problem with the pictures and Windows. But till apple fix this problem (i hope so) you can use photoshop. It will open the photo correctly and you can save it then.

Are you sure you are working on a copy of the file on your C: drive, etc, rather than from the folder that is the iPhone? You won't have rights to re-write the file to the iPhone which may explain what you are seeing.

Photoshop will rotate pics... so will many other apps. but the cheapest in Windows is just to use the built in "Windows Photo Viewer", which will open by default anyway unless you've installed anything cleverer such as Photoshop.

Have been reading this entire string because I have the same issue with my iphone4s, that said. Have been

trying different things. 1st was a pik taken using volume button photo was sent to both pcs one vista one windows 7, photo was upside down on both, saved to pc and rotated proper viewing and saved. Then sent to facebook trying both, the original and the resaved rotated photo and both were shown on facebook upsidedown? Next I took the same photo using the app Perfect Photo, also using the volume button saved the photo to camera roll which also sends it to photo stream. On both pcs the photo came on photo stream in the right position. Now I know this App

used the same iphone4s camera so why the problem. shoud not have to go through all this repositioning.

As stated before, Apple has a very small percentage of the worldwide computer users. Having to hold the 4S upside down or use third party software to rotate pictures/video so that we can send them to non-Apple users is unacceptable. It is apparently Apple's way of making everyone buy an Apple for all uses while forgetting that 80-90% of the world does not have Apple computers.

Himz. Oberoi, chs24, and others apparently do not have problems because they are 100% Apple and have no friends/acquaintances that are non-Apple users.

I'm an iPhone 4S and Windows 7 user. Even though I found a workaround in using Irfanview as my default image viewer, IMO, it's Apple's responsiblity to make it right for their customers. They could reach out to Redmond to team up on a fix.

I'm sorry but I find it hilarious that anyone would suggest that this is not Apple's fault. Whether or not it is the right way to store photos is irrelevant. You may as well say that people should walk on all fours as it is more correct. The simple fact is that if the rest of the world does it a certain way, Apple deciding to do it the "correct" way does not exactly equate to great customer care. So to the Apple fanbois, we know that it's not a bug, it's just Apple pig headedness and plain stupid. Remain apologists if you like but understand that nobody cares, we only want Apple to behave in a way that has regard for its customers.

I tried to take an upside down picture using my brand new Canon IXUS 115 - one of the latest Canon models in the Ultra compact range. While i was holding my camera upside down everything was upside down on the display. The image was recorder and stored upside down and after transfering it to my computer it was also upside down while i was viewing that picture using Windows photo viewer, ACDSee Pro, My XBMC Media Center and even Adobe Photoshop. Of course it was my intention to take this picture upside down - it was clear because my camera was OBVIOUSLY upside down and everything on the camera display was upside down, so all my Picture viewers were displaying that image upside down the way it was MEANT to be displayed!!! How hard is that Apple????

FYI the EXIF information on that picture states that the oriantation is reversed... but most Picture Viewers DON' T ROTATE reversed photos... Do you know why??? Because if you are taking an upside down (reversed) picture you were propably INTENTED TO!!!! Do you listen Apple? It's not our intention to take upside down pictures using our brand new super smartphones... you just force us to do so... but we don't want to....

Any decent picture application or viewer has an orientation edit button. How hard is that Windows?
