Iphone 4s Takes Pictures Upside-Down???

My iphone 4s takes pictures upside down even if I hold the phone upright (home screen on the bottom). Is it just a glitch in the phone or can I do something to fix it??

Has anyone else had this issue??

iPhone 4, iOS 5

I'm pretty sure that is just one of trillions of glitches, as my own **** experience With faulty Apple equipment continues... if you try to get hep you'll be left very dissatisfied and frustrated and maybe 1-2 hours on hold at the help desk.

Ohhhh, maybe that's why they have these forums, so those that are denied support have a hope to get help here. I'm thinking you're never going to get anything but a headache. :( Apple doesn't care, why do they call it 'Apple Care?'

It has nothing to do with Windows. It has to do with the camera. Dedicated cameras can be physically rotated. With smartphones, the orientation on the screen changes as you rotate the physical device. That is the intended behavior, so there really is no Up or Down and that's the way we all want smartphones to behave.

I'm sure a software switch could be added, but it's not going to happen, because there's no demand for that function (except for you). In the very rare instance that someone might need that or similar special effect, they can flip and rotate the photos in their photo application.

As long as the lens have an orientation then there is always the normal photo and the upside down photo. When I'm taking a photo while holding my iPhone the way Apple wants me to (with the volume button UP as a shutter button) I'm actually taking an upside down photo. Then this photo is reversed and always remains reversed until i open that photo with an editing app and turn it 180 degrees to appear normal. If this is intented behavior then i want my money back...

Having just got an iPhone 4s and iPad 2 and spent all Xmas vacation taking upside down photos and 4gb of upside down videos, I share everyone's annoyance.

Temporary solution seems to be 1) if like me you like to take a photo or video and immediately email it from the phone, then you have no choice...hold the phone upside down. 2) download googles free picaasa 3 software, and use that to import your photos and videos on to your pc. It will show them all correctly. However if you use ie explorer you will see that it still shows them upside down, so if you email to anyone else, unless they open using software such as Picasso, problem is still there. 3) deluge apple with questions and feedback. I paid for two years technical cover from apple and intend to use it to its full.

THIS is the whole point of this thread, not EXIF and how everyone should be using/catching up to this standard. But the fanbois seem to be ignoring this point or just can't seem to comprehend it. It's not rocket surgery.

You obviously have NOT read ALL of this thread...

Its not so much the pictures being upside down , but the problem is when you import the pictures to the pc , there is pictures that are on there side or upside down .

Then when you try to rotate the picture and move onto the next one , a error msg shows up saying there is a problem with the photos file properties ! This is happening on both computers , one is windows 7, the other is xp !

The iphone 4 never had this issue , its the 4s which is playing funny buggers .

Am i the only one this is happening to ? ?

Yes it is!!!

You are missing the big picture.

If Apple want you to take pictures with the volume button, then at presnt pictures and video are being taken upside down.

If THEY fix this then there is no need to rotate!!! ESPECIALLY IF TAKING VIDEO!!

How hard is this to comprehend???

Hi everyone and Happy New Year,

Why don't every disappointed person give a negative feedback reporting a bug to Apple? Please use this link:

Perhaps if Apple reads tons of negative feedbacks reconsider the way they are doing things...

Maybe you should read the whole thread before wasting bandwith (and now making me waste bandwith with this reply).

Maybe I did read it and you don't know. And maybe lots of people don't read the full thread and the more times the feedback link appears, the more people complains about and the sooner Apple works on it.

So sorry for making you waste bandwidth :-P, If you think you are wasting it, please don't post and save time and bits...

Regards.

This is quite right josemca. It's incredible that the Apple apologists here just can't see what is right in front of their faces. It's extremely simple, if Apple provide the functionality to use the phone as a camera then it should function as a camera. If the suggestion is that to use it as a camera you hold it with the buttons on top then why on god's earth do they then dictate that any photo or video taken this way will appear upside down on most other devices and in fact even in their own web browser? I may have earlier been prepared to accept that this is not a bug but the fact on closer examination is that it is at least a gross oversight on Apple's part or it is in fact a bug. Either way, it is encumbent on Apple to fix it as at least in my country there are laws to protect consumers against manufacturers who supply goods that are not fit for the purpose for which they are advertised. Under Australian consumer laws, if taken to task Apple would at least be forced to refund all monies expended by the consumer. Now obviously nobody is going to want to go down that path as in most ways Apple provides a quality product but any suggestion that this is a Microsoft problem is just plain WRONG! I have personally complained to Apple via their feedback portal on a number of occasions and as yet there is no action so the more complaints they get the better.

Jan 3, 2012 12:54 PM in response to mfarqwa

You mfarqwa, are an unqualified idiot! I did not see josemca force you to reply and the fact that you did says more about your blind acceptance of whatever Apple is happy to dish up than anything else. You and people like you are the reason why Apple and Microsoft are both completely happy to continue providing beta grade offerings in the guise of merchantable product. I am personally tired of paying for the priviledge of being the beta tester for companies who are too lazy and too money hungry to give two hoots about their customers.
