iphone spotlight search

I started having same problem today.

I turned off bluetooth (which I activated yesterday) and now it seems to be working......

My spotlight has not worked since i bought the 4S on launch day. My old 4 worked just fine. its really annoying to go in and turn it off and on each day.

If there are 30 of us then we know there are at least 30,000 more somewhere else not posting.

Exactly the same problem with my iPhone 4 and my new iPhone 4s . No fix yet.

It is really annoying having to reboot it may many times in order to use the Search and then after a fews use it happen again.

Apple please fix it.

I've been having this problem since I got the 4S. Exchanged it once already for that cell phone problem where we cannot hear the rings and the call (and we hang up on the person who picks up the call)*. Thought the hardware exchange would solve this problem. It didn't. Apple genius says its a software problem and left me to solve it on my own. Been having to reboot every time this happens. Apple is slipping or making things too complicated.

I also have the same problem that recently using Iphone 4S and IOS5.01 the spotlight search became intermittently very slow (around 10 seconds to return an answer).

After it had found something then it was quick as normal but if I went out of spotlight and then returned it became very slow again.

However recently I have another fix:

1) Removed MAIL from Spotlight search (Settings;General;Spotlight;)

2) I disabled my Gmail email account(turning it OFF in settings:Settings;Mail;Gmail;Mail: OFF ),

3) Rebooted Iphone

4) then re-adding MAIL to the spotlight search

5) Rebooted iphone

6) enabled Gmail account (Settings;Mail;Gmail;Mail: ON)

- and search was Fixed!

It may have been the email search index was corrupted?.

The same on my iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1. Must disable the in-Mail search option in General->Spotlight settings menu to make it work again, but you loose all the Mail indexing.

I also think this may have something to do with Gmail, as I began having this problem after adding a Gmail account to Mail. Spotlight had worked fine before with just my single Exchange account and it started working after removing the Gmail account. Maybe it's a problem tied to IMAP.

My problems were exactly the same as described here. I did the same as simonfromnorbury recommended and it's fixed. For how long I don't know. I'll keep you posted if it comes back.

Bump. Same issue here. iPhone 4 + iOS 5.0.1

Spotlight search was so great back when it was working.

This has been bothering me since I got a 4s on release day. My 3gs & 4 were great. Then came the 4s. It worked awesome for the first search; then nothing seemed to correct it.

I have since discovered that it seems to be related to the amount of emai I have onboard, but if the email is the last item spotlight searches, it doesn't seem to bog down or freeze.

Steps I took:

Deselected email

Rebooted

Moved email to bottom of serch list

Enabled email.

Benchmark: 5 gmail, 1 hotmail, 1 Exchange, 1 iCloud.

5150 songs, 155 apps, 17GB used in all.

So far so good.

Notwithstanding, I have still registered feedback. Please do so as well.

I hav the iPhone 4 an it's upgraded to the iOS 5.0.1, iv had d same problem no keypad on my spotlight search, I hav jus deleted my vlingo app, an it's all systems go happy days

"Bag It!" is another culprit. I had a keyboard, but no search results.

EBWOP: I take that back. Forgot to test it without the app installed.

Spotlight on iphone 4S with IOS 5 or latest 5.0.1 (9A405) is bugged (EXTREMELY slow or stopped).....In fact IT NEVER WORKS FINE SINCE I bought the new 4S, spotlight on my old Iphone 3GS with IOS 4 works 100 times better.

FWIW, I have the same issue on an iPhone 4 (not 4S) with iOS 5.0.1.

Note that disabling Spotlight Search of Mail (and perhaps restarting) lets Spotlight search everything else just fine.
