iphone spotlight search

I don't know when this started, but on my iPhone 4S running iOS5, the spotlight search has stopped working. You can "swipe" to the left and see the keyboard come up, and you can type normally, but nothing happens. The only thing that makes it work is quitting all open applications and powering off/on. But even then, it only works a SINGLE time, then back to the same issue. Anyone know of any fix or is this an iOS5 issue?

Me too. I find it amazing that Apple have had access to phones with this problem for a couple of months and have not fixed it. I develop software - with a MUCH smaller customer base and we'd respond to this much quicker. Is there an official response even from Apple? I love Apple stuff - but their apparent indifference to user problems I find hard to take. I will apologise and take (most of) it back if someone can point me at an Apple explanation and schedule to fix.

And I also find it amazing that people seem to happily go off and backup, wipe, reinstall, restore stuff. I.e. spend a few hours on it - and it's not even their problem.

I hope I have not violated any terms and conditions - if I have I guess I must be in a large country in the East.

I got a new problem with spotlight

Sometimes, when I go on spotlight page , or if by mistake I reach spotlight page, it competely freeze my iphone without possibility to do something. I waited , thinking that it was jhust a small freeze but no , it stand frozen.

If I press on on/off button nothing happens. idem for home button alone.

I just have to press the on/off button + Home button for 10 sec, to turn off my iphone 4S (iOS 5.0.1)

Does anyone of you experienced the same bug ?

I am having a similar problem with my iphone 4s. Spotlight Search has become incredibly slow, when selecting it via the home button or swiping (to the left) to the search screen. After I reboot my phone, the first couple swipes will be relatively smooth, but it is all downhill from there.

First, I experience lagginess as the screen is switching from 'home screen' to 'search screen'. It essentially looks like it is stuck between the two screens (typical lag characteristic). It will remain frozen like this for multiple seconds. Then, when I try to type something, the keyboard immediately lags and it takes a minimum of five seconds for the would-be text to appear in the search bar.

I have tried deselecting ALL (as well as only mail, music, etc) 'search catagories' under 'Spotlight Search' in settings followed by a reboot- to no avail. I also tried syncing my phone with itunes, and deleting my cloud backup, but the lagginess is still there...

The strangest part is I did not experience this problem until approximately one week ago. I could swipe back and forth between the 'home' and 'search' screen endlessly with very minimal lag. Transitioning from one screen to another, typing search queries, and getting search results all previously occurred fluidly. Further, I have not dealt with any other lag issues with the phone. Apps load up quickly, graphics do not seem to be affected either.

Spotlight search is an important, but basic function. This lag renders it useless. Apple needs to get on top of these simple issues before ios shapeshifts into android...

I'm also a spotlight addict. But recently I added a second email account to my iphone and that's when it stopped working altogether. I've been able to prove this by disabling email search in Settings>General>Spotlight Search. Prior to adding the second email account it worked intermittently. The sad this is, email is probably THE SINGLE MOST application that spotlight offers the most value. So if anyone knows whether Apple is going to fix this or another work around, please post!
