When I try to export my movie in iMovie 11 (9.0.4) I get the message that the operation cannot be performed "error code -49" . Can any one tell me what this is and how do I get round it?

it means
opWrErr = -49, /*file already open with with write permission*/
I assume, you're using music stored on some NAS/external drive as iTunes-'Server'
workaround:
copy tracks needed for iM onto your local, internal harddrive, use this version.-
Not using any music. All work is on the MacBook Pro's internal disk
... and all video are imports from a Cam?
Yes, all video is from a Sony HD camcorder. When I exported to iTunes two days ago I had no problems ao I have a copy in .m4v format but I want a higher definition copy to import into iMovie 6HD where i have a greater choice of title styles. The error message only occurred when I tried to export to the HD 720p format.
.. and you export to ... ?
The desktop.
try to export to some folder, ...
how about 'Movies'? ... đ
I am having the same issue.
I am using iMovie 11 on a macbook pro with the latestest version and update of LION.
My videos shot on my new iphone 4s and imported into iPhoto the way I have done with every other iphone before this one for years. I have never had a problem at all. ever. Till today.
and when I built the project using the clips from my iphoto library and go to export to send to youtube in HD 720, it runs for 39 mins THEN gives me this error:
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (File already open with with write permission)
I really do not see how it could be a permission issue since it is a file in my harddrive from an apple phone to my apple iphoto used by my apple imovie...
and until today it worked perfectly... ARRRRRGGGGGHHH!

Can someone please let me know what to do to fix this error. I have removed any network connections, rebooted to make sure nothing was working in the background but no luck. It just started doing this the other day. I thought it was because I converted a video to use but this is straight from the camera with no extra music only chapter markers and titles.
Help
I'm having the same issue with video directly imported from my Sony Handycam. I have been importing the video, creating projects, and exporting these projects using quicktime to my desktop for a month or two now. All of the sudden I was getting errors when trying to import video, they said clip failed to import. After retrying multiple time i finally got all the clips onto my macbook pro. Now when i try to export them I get the error. I have also deleted and re-imported the clips. I will try rebooting, and then export it again to somewhere other than my desktop.
I am having the same problem. My movies imported from iphone4 macbook pro i7 8GB HD 750 GB more tham 500 GB free.
Have perian, flip for mac instaled. Had quicktime 7 Pro instaled but since migration to lion it does not work To.
Since Lion I can't export in 720p format. Only optimized format. Tried everything like this post

No results.
Please. If somebody knows how to solve the problem help.
Thanks,
Now i can export small HD movies form imovie. No more than 10 minutes.
HD is not full but seens that imovie "thinks" HD is full.
Tried to restore permitions no progress...
OK,
I found a way to turn around.
1- download Houdini
2- start imovie and let the project ready
3- start movie encode
4- with Houdini and erase all quicktime hidden files on desktop, documents and movie folders. There were big files bigger than 6 GB, I erased all.
Tried this way to times and everything goes ok. I could export my movies complete in HD 720p !!!
I hope it works for you to.
Lets wait apple launch a definitive solution.
I hope apple will launch a solution soon.
Don't let the discussions die!!!đż
Exactly the same issue here. It worked until I upgraded to Lion. I've spent the last two weeks of evenings editing a movie and now I can't export it. Tried all the suggested 'fixes' but nothing helps. Do Apple even acknowledge that there is an issue yet? It seems to me that iMovie is fundamentally broken at the moment.
