Factory unlocked iphone 4s???

If I buy a factory unlocked iphone 4s from USA, will it work on Indian GSM networks without any problem?

I mean, without having to unlock them illegally.

It is unlocked iPhone 4S because I can get the service provider name but without signal bars. It came without any AT&T logo on the box and I pad $1150 for it.

Me and my friend bought two fones and his fone is working fine in India whereas mine is having signal bars problem.

Send me ur email ID , I will email you the 4S pics with my service provider name.

Well even my iphone box, does not have the AT&T logo either, when in fact I am in contract with AT&T. It is possible that the dealer bought the iphone from canada and brought it down to U.S. Only way to tell is by putting the serial number.

I don't have to believe that the iphone you purchased was from U.S because clearly U.S doesn't sell factory unlocked iphones yet, not until November. As I said, it's possible that the dealer brought it from Canada and brought it down to U.S. That's the only thing I can think of.

Hi . .Not to worry. Just spoke to Apple India and US. Most probably yours and mine are factory unlocked phones from Apple retail. They'll be able to tell you that when you give them the serial number of your phone. After long discussions and troubleshooting they found it to be a hardware problem and have agreed to replace it. But unfortunately it has to be sent to US. Can be replaced in any Apple Retail Store in the US !

Dear Arjun,

Thanks for your supporting mail. Most of the people in this forum don't even believe that we have got unlocked iPhone 4s and keep on negating the hardware issue.

You are correct, it could be a hardware problem. I am planning to send it back and would get the other one, I know it is factory unlocked because after inserting the sim card it searched for the network and than there appeared the service provider name with edge/ 3G logo and after few minutes it disappeared as there were no signals.

My another friend is using his 4S which is working absolutely fine.

Thanks once again. Please do update if anything useful comes up. I will also kEep you posted.

Best regards,

It's the contract free phones from Apple stores in the US. They don't market it as a factory unlocked phone. But when you buy the contract free phone, AT&T or the other providers unlock it for global use.

Yes, I realize that. I was addressing syed aziz, as he has never stated where he purchased is. And since he says he paid $1150 for it, there is no way he bought it from an Apple retail store.
