Factory unlocked iphone 4s???

Hi Guys,

So I came to US for a couple of months and I bought an iPhone 4S factory unlocked from apple store. I've been using it since 2 weeks on T-Mobile and its been working fine. I'm getting back to India next month and I wanted to know if the sim card problems been resolved. I didn't think there would be any problem but I stumbled on this thread by chance and now I'm skeptical. Should I get this phone back to India or should I return it back? I still have 2 weeks before I can return it for a refund. I don't want to come back and face network problems! Please help! Thanks!

Your problem is simple. iPhones have a different whole system in networks. All you have to do is call the service your iPhone ORIGINALLY belonged too (AT&T/VERIZON) and ask for your carriers code. They have a different code for each carrier! Sometimes calling Apple will help...but theyve seem to be unreliable lately.

all issues are resolved now. it works perfect in India...I am using an unlocked 4s from US in India without any issues..

I have just got the Iphone (factory unlocked) and its IMEI starts with 0130.

Its good to hear that the unlocked 4s is working in India but please let me know if the IMEI number of iphone you are using also starts with 0130.

Hi, I purchased a iPhone 4S from Toronto few days back. I bought it from a guy and not from Apple store. SUpposedly it is an Factory Unlocked phone. When I enter the serial number on the Apple support page, and click on FInd my support carriers, it does show me the names of all the carriers in Canada. Does that mean it is Factory Unlocked ?

Hard to say what you got. Have you tried a couple of SIM cards in it to see if they work? I don't believe there is any way to look up on any Apple web site what carrier a phone might be locked to. All it's doing is showing you supported carriers in your area.

I havent inserted any SIM in the phone yet, as I have bought it for use in India. If I call up APple and give them the Serial Number or IMEI , will they be able to tell me if its Factory Unlocked ?

My iphone IMEI starts with 0130 and it works excellent in India (Pune region using 2009 Idea SIM with 3G).

how to know that it is unlocked while buying iphone4s from dubai??

Send the IMEI number to apple support...they will be able to tell you if it is unlocked or not...

ideally if the mobile is not attached to any carrier then it should be unlocked...but still I suggest to check with support.

So just to clarify, If i buy an unlcoked iPhone in the US and bring it back to NZ, it will work absolutely fine in NZ with a New Zealand sim card and I won't get any data roaming charges?
