iPhone 4s drops calls

My new 4S, 5 days old, has dropped calls the last 3 days whereas my 3GS never did?

Similar.

iPhone 4S 64GB on Vodafone Ireland - dropped 50% of the calls I made on the device. The other 50% of calls were me ringing those people back, so it was nearly a 100% ratio in actual fact.

Had to return it sadly, as I did not want to get saddled with a 'Smart-Phone' unable to make 'Phone' calls for 24 month contract.

The iPhone 4 had similar problems for me after the 4.2.1 upgrade back in November last year, I hoped 11 months later after no resolution with that, that the new antenna's and improved signalling would solve the issues that plagued the iPhone 4, but sadly the s was no better for me.

Annoying as I love the iPhone for it's other features, but I need a phone - not an iPod Touch...

I've switched from 3GS to 64GB 4S, and I'm getting dropped calls and/or the person I'm talking to complaining about a weird echo he's hearing... I'm having this issue with Orange Switzerland... It seems to happen after 3-5min. This ans the fact that the phone hardly lasts a day of normal usage (my 2year old 3GS lasted a day and a half) makes me really frustrated about the quality of this pricey phone.

Apple: hear us out and do something!

I'm having the exact same problem with my new 4S 64gb iphone with dropped calls. Still on the same network as before but never had these issues with my old 3GS handset. Clearly an issue with the new 4S handsets. I've checked with O2 my carrier and they have had no reported network problems in my area so it must be 4S handset. Calls all drop out after a few minutes (usually 3mins +) into the call.

iPhone 4S is my fifth iPhone. All on the same network. No kidding, the same network and I've never had more dropped calls than the 4S. The problem in my opinion is not the service provider, it's the inability to turn the 3G on or off. That option doesn't exist on the 4S. It does on my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1

Try this on any iPhone, except 4S, during the call, go to setting>general>network>3G off/on....and you will get a warning that if you proceed, you loose the call. And you will.

This is what's happening with me on the 4S, my 3G is always on because I don't have a choice, and when the cell towers change (while on the move) to a cell tower with no 3G support, the calls get dropped and searches for signal again.

This is shameful, I blv apple have the 3G on all the time for Siri. But it's creating more problems then ever in dropped calls and battery life for those who don't want 3G.

Thnx.

When I first started using my iPhone 4S, I was getting dropped calls like crazy. I did a little research online and found some suggestions. I have noticed that I only get dropped calls when I have wifi turned on. If I turn wifi off and only use 3g, I don't drop any calls at all. I'm using an iPhone 4S 32gb on ATT with 5.0.1 update.

Try to turn of wifi on your phone and see if it makes a difference for you with dropped calls. It completely cured my problem. Hopefully the new update will fix this though so I can keep wifi on. Also, I hope the echo problem will be fixed as well.

I ran into the same problem with my 4S. I was using the same SIM card that I used in my other iphone but the TMo store cut for me. I went back and got an actual micro-sim that was not cut and it has worked perfectly. Before the new micro-sim was getting many unable to dial, searching, unable to send & receive texts... since that time no drops and the bars have been very high the whole time...

I would recommend trying a new sim from your proder. TMo didn't charge me anything when I walked in the store. Was in and out in 10 mins... definitely worth looking into if you are near an actualy cell provider store...

I am having the same problem with new 4s drops calls all the time called O2 and they claim not a problem!

Even when you answer a call it drops the call and gives the message "call failed" .

Never had this problem with last G4 old model.

It is not the area as I travel all over the country and still same problem.

Tried new sim card from O2 still the same tried reseting ect.

Has anyone got an answer before I am forced to ditch for a phone that works from another brand.

I went twice to the Caroussel du Louvre Apple Store in Paris in one week.

They changed everytimes my iPhone 4S 64 Go white. Basically it's my 3rd iPhone 4S , and it still doesn't work. The second and third iPhone serial numbers i had in hands start with C39.

I don't If it's something related, but it is definitely something related with hardware.

My sim card works perfectly well with my old iPhone 4 32 Go black (which is supposed to be with antenna gate problem.)

3G Network Signal drops occur with the new iPhone 4S 64, plus it does some really wierds stuff. Like calling unwanted people when phone is in pocket, getting stuck and the only possible stuff to do is a hard reboot. Crashing... No 3G and only Edge in the middle of Paris. Need to switch on Airplane mode to catch back 3G.

Basically a NIGHTMARE!

I'm really fed up of this.

I left my iPhone 4S at home this week-end, and switched back to my iPhone 4.

Monday (we are on saturday 1:00 AM) I will call back Apple and will try to get refund from them.

This device costs 849 euros and is not reliable. I really need a reliable device for work, and can not afford to work with beta or not well assembled device.

I am a very very very very disatisfied customer.

I hope Apple is going to keep things simple. Because it doesn't seem the way it goes. Especially when I go through the Setting panel.

Cheers for reading.

I was having the exact same problem but Apple were able to fix it with a firmware reset. Practically every call was dropping so I took it to an Apple Store. They could find no physical problems with the phone so did a very deep firmware reset (one I've never done before) which required plugging it into iTunes and holding down the home and lock buttons for 8 seconds then letting go of the home button as it booted up. It was something like that anyway. Well worth looking up that solution as it seems to have done the trick. No dropped calls and the signal bar is much more honest now - before it seemed to think it had much better signal than it did.
