iPhone 4 iOS 5 stuck on "Dock Connector" mode

Earlier today, I was playing a game, and I noticed that the sound wasn't working.. but occasionally it would come in for a few seconds.

I can't play music through the speaker, but regular ringing/alert tones work.

The volume button is mission when I double tap the home button, and when I click on Airplay icon, I see my Apple TV devices, and "Dock Connector"

I hooked my phone up to a dock connecter last weekend, and it seems that it is stuck in that mode.. I've tried rebooting, and resyncing but I can't get it off..

Seems to be a bug of sorts-

Is there any remedy for this without having to restore?

Thanks!

Try cleaning the dock connector. A dry clean toothbrush usually works. Also get a magnifying glass and inspect the connector carefully to make sure you got all the dirt out and that none of the pins are bent. Occasionally there are hardware problems, not everything is software 😉

I recently had this problem and it frustrated me for quite awhile until I finally figured it out yesterday. I have a third party charger that I think caused this problem. It has locks on the left and right that lock the charger in place and I think at some point I've pulled on it without fully depressing the buttons causing me to slightly pull the connector out of place. To fix I took a flat object and lightly tapped back in the white piece that connects to the charger on the phone. I know this sounds ridiculous but as soon as I did that my Airplay options went from "Dock Connector" to iPhone and my sound started working once again. I don't know how long this fix will work, but it has been a day and so far so good.

I wanted to reply, since most of the responses were old. I have been having the same problem for a couple of weeks. Brushing out the dock connector with a clean, dry toothbrush seemed to work. I left the phone on the dock all night last night, and it seemed to work. Of course, only time will tell. I wanted to post here, because most of these seem to miss an important point. You also might want to try cleaning out the docking port, on any devices you dock your phone to. If you use a charging cable, try cleaning or even replacing it.
