This might be a hardware problem but whenever I place my fingers on my Mighty Mouse, it would trigger the Button 4 action, and make a little click from the internal speaker, as if I had used the side buttons. This makes things incredibly hard to use (button 4 is mapped to Dashboard) since anytime I want to work with the mouse, I'd have Dashboard constantly coming in and out. I found that turning that button off will stop the clicking and triggering, but now means that I can't use that button anymore. Turning the action off, then on temporarily fixes the problem for about an hour and rebooting the computer did nothing to help.
Suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to fix it?
The humidity seems to be a strong factor. My mighty mouse on my Intel iMac had been behaving correctly for the last week or so and then a cool front came through and I turn on the central heat and it began to misbehave.
Hey all you mouse problem people. I know from experience (with a PC a long time ago) that a bad ground on the wall plate the computer was plugged into can cause this problem.
The exact same symptoms you are describing. I would check your ground. You can get a circuit tester at any hardware store or Home Depot type place. It is a 3 prong plug with some LEDs on it that shows if everything is wired correctly.
This would also explain why some people have seen the issue go away when they move the computer to a different location.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this problem. I get a clicking noise when I touch the front of the mouse lightly that activates the side button function. Applecare wants me to pay to get tech support on this brand new mouse which obviously doesn't work correctly.
I tried touching metal on my iMac and it stopped the problem. Totally weird.
It would be nice if an Apple person would address this issue. I don't want to have to wire myself to my computer.
I'm also having the same problem. If I move the iMac to another outlet in the house it works fine. If I move it to another outlet on the same circuit - it is still messed up. This makes me believe it is electrical.
Has anyone had this problem on the iMac using Bluetooth or is it just with the cord version?
UPDATE: We bought a gadget at Best Buy to add an phone jack to a room with no phone jack outlet. This gadget uses the outlet in the room to add the phone jack - when I unplugged it - no more problems with the Mighty Mouse! We'll see how long it lasts!
This problem has been happening for a while. Go to the

I'm having this same problem with my iMac Core Duo. I turned the side buttons off to help with the problem, but I could still hear it clicking... very annoying. I can use the mouse on my powerbook (with powerPC processor) and it works FINE. I also use one at work on a PowerMac G4 1.25 and it works fine there as well.
Has their been any development or reported fixes for this problem? I'm running 10.4.6 and the problem still exists (not on the PowerBook tho).
I finally gave up. After realizing that the Mighty Mouse is also not a good gaming mouse, I went out and bought a Logitech G5 Laser Mouse. I have to admit I like this mouse better than the Mighty Mouse. It's got a Tilt Scroll Wheel so I can still scroll left and right and I get a lot more precision control plus use the mouse w/out a mousepad.
Can't wait for a Bluetooth version. However, I won't do cartwheels when a wireless Mighty Mouse is released, unless they make it where you can use both the left and right mouse buttons simultaneously.

I have had my 20" iMac (Intel) for 13 days. The mouse started exhibiting this behavior after 8 days. The side buttons trigger when my finger isn't
quite touching anywhere on the front end of the mouse (the buttons). The sound is awfully annoying, though it's not stuck in a crippling finder-expose loop. Mighty Mouse indeed. Incessent-clicking dud of a mouse, closer to...
Hey everyone, I've got a new 17" iMac Core 2 Duo here, experiencing this exact problem. Very strange...
Fenstermakera, can you provide a link to a description of your Best Buy gadget, perhaps it could provide some clues as to the types of interference others should look for. Also, was it plugged into the same plug as the iMac or a different one in the same room? Did it still cause a problem when it was not located physically close to the computer?
Hi, all you people, the PROBLEM is electrical, for expirience I can say that I tried all the apple services recommended me but no problem solve, so I tester all my electrical connections and fixed the ground cord in the electrical plaque so vouala, problem fixed thanks god!!!
I hope this recommendations help you all!
i also have the same freakin problem, it also effects my "right-click". so my "squeeze" sensor and "right-click" sensor are all messed up. and i've swapped out my mightymouse 3 times already. i newly discovered that if i touch the base of my iMac while using the mouse, everything works fine and peachy, but the second i let go of it the "squeeze" sensor goes crazy!!!!!!
now i understand that it is an electrical issue, i'm pretty savvy when it comes with computers but i havent a clue about household electrical wiring. could someone please give me step-by-step instruction on how to fix the elecrical issue? i know you "fix the ground cord in the electrical plaque" but what the heck does that mean?
i kno what a ground wire is but i learned all of it when i wired my car speakers, the house is a little different i assume.
PLEASE HELP! where are the freakin apple® geniuses to address the problem??????
It is not the grounding of the computer which is the problem. It is the pesky un-grounded user. When you touch the base of the iMac you become grounded and your Mighty Mouse works correctly. If your iMac wasn't grounded, touching the base would be just like touching the table it is sitting on. And touching the table doesn't make the mouse worked correctly.
The problem is with the Mighty Mouse being grounded and the users potential (voltage) being out of spec, so to speak. This in turn screws up the readings of the capacitance sensors and makes the mouse think you are touching the mouse harder than you are. You touch the base, you are grounded, your potential is in an operable range and the mouse works.
