iCal Version 5.0.1 (1547.4) New Event titles revert to "New Event"

Since upgrading to Lion, my iCal has been erratic. Two main issues:

1. New events - once I create a new event and name it, usually within a few seconds, the title of the event changes to New Event.

2. iCal is unstable: Usually manifested in two ways -

a. freezes or goes to sleep for a random period of time and then works

b. crashes and delivers an error about ending abnormally asing if to restart or ignore, or some such language.

Any clues?

Same problem here. Annoying!

How to replicate:

1. Create new Event

2. name it

3. change Calendar

4. close Event

5. wait 2 Seconds -> All data lost. Event is described as "New Event"

Changing Frequency of Refresh does not help (Pull, 1min, 5min, 15min, manually). Same behaviour.

It seems to me that the problem is exactly related to switching calendars while creating the event. If I create a de novo event, and don't change the calendar, no data is lost. If I change the calendar before (or after) entering the event information, everything is lost as rb_ describes. My workaround is this (if you need to change calendars):

1) Create a new event.

2) Change the calendar.

3) Click away to "save" the new event.

4) Wait a couple seconds

5) Double click on the New Event to open it back up.

6) Make the changes.

7) Click away to "save" the proper event.

It is a real bummer that you have to do this - and a pain if you don't remember. Also, it does not work for events where you used "add to iCal" - like eVite events, and events retrieved from Mail. For those, you have to create the event on whichever is the default calendar, save it, wait, then go back in and change the calendar.

You have identified the problem precisely. It occurs when you create a new event and switch calendars before "saving" the new event. The problem arises because new events open in one's default calendar, which means that if you attempt to assign a new event to another calendar -- something that is clearly contemplated by the design of the program -- you will lose your data. Since the program itself allows for and encourages the use of multiple calendars, users should not be required to go through an unnecessary, counter-intuitive step (i.e. entering data into a new event and "saving" it in the default calendar, then reopening the event to assign it to the desired calendar). This is clearly a design flaw that should be fixed by Apple. The strange thing is that this was happening in an earlier version of iCal (5.0.1) and then was clearly fixed for a period of time, because I only began experiencing this problem a month or so ago. Before that, when I entered data in a new event and then in a single step assigned it to the desired calendar, I did not experience any data loss. One of Apple's recent updates clearly created (or recreated) a problem that had not existed for some time.
