iCal Version 5.0.1 (1547.4) New Event titles revert to "New Event"

Since upgrading to Lion, my iCal has been erratic. Two main issues:

1. New events - once I create a new event and name it, usually within a few seconds, the title of the event changes to New Event.

2. iCal is unstable: Usually manifested in two ways -

a. freezes or goes to sleep for a random period of time and then works

b. crashes and delivers an error about ending abnormally asing if to restart or ignore, or some such language.

Any clues?

I found that command R simply made the event go to Ne Event instantly, as opposed to waiting a few minutes. Still not fixed. To get round it I use the create an event in default calendar, then go back and change the calendar after a few minutes (The refresh calendars may make this solution more instantaneous - I just thought about that and haven't tried it yet.)

Was having this problem until I discovered that creating a new event and naming it was fine, it's when you select the calendar in the edit box that it reverts back to 'new event'. Solution seems to be to create new event by dragging, name the event and location but DON'T select the calendar in the edit box. Click away from the new event, then double click to edit and select the calendar. Seems to work here (10.8.5).

I am using OSX 10.9.5. It's as high as I can go without going to yosemite which I'm nervous to do. I have been having this issue for a long time now.

Every time I create an event in iCal on my iMac (never on my iPhone-which it syncs with), EVERY event reverts to a "NEW EVENT" for 9am on that day. I watch it happen within seconds of hitting return to solidify the event. I think it is syncing with iCloud and when that happens, the only thing that keeps me sane is, since I know its inevitable, is to just open up the new event, enter the event. let it sync (you can see it say "updating"). Once it does, I go back into that new event and put in all the details. I have called apple about this, but I got a novice who knew nothing and I didn't have the time to escalate it. I too am hoping for a fix. Occasionally an event reverts and I wrack my brain wondering what event that was I tried to put in, but I feel awful for people who are using this for very important meetings or events. Missed appointments are extremely embarrassing. I really hope Apple fixes this soon.

Waouuu, we'are in 2015, I just clean installed OX 10.10.5 and... this "revert to New Event title" issue has not been solved. I can even add that it's sometimes the same for the "note" section in the event details. They happen to vanish after validation ("Enter" key, or a click somewhere else in the UI).

But........ in the meantime, the designers had time to change iCal skim to a notebook style and revert to the older regular style and change a few keyboard shortcuts!

Please, please, please, more money in research for stability and less in design changing if you are looking for user satisfaction. It seems that APPLE is not hearing and meeting users needs.

If there's a need for beauty in a device we carry every day it must not take the advantage on performances and simplicity of use (= consistency over time).

May I recall how long it took to APPLE to enable users to resize a window on any corner instead of just the bottom-right one !!!!!

I am experiencing exactly the same issue. Everytime (without fail) when I create a new event it reverts back to 'New Event' at 9am. I am running the following system:

OS: 10.9.5 (Mavericks)

Hardware: MacBook Pro

The only workaround I have is to:

  1. Create an event (basic information as will be lost)
  2. Allow it to revert automatically
  3. Change it to the real details and always click 'Enter' to save changes

This seems to help but shouldn't have to do this.

I have the exact same issue. Spoke with Apple Support and they seem to be unaware that this issue exists. The only difference I have it that it doesn't happen all the time, which makes it even worse. Just when I think it is working, BOOM, here comes the 'New Event'. Looks like I'll have to keep everything on paper as well.

I agree with all who say "It's ridiculous that this problem exists and Apple needs to fix it right now." You can't have calendar events disappearing due to a software glitch, especially when you're Apple.

My work-around has been to either:

1) just watch and wait ten seconds or so and then entre all teh info again (very annoying) ; or,

2) create a "Quick Event" using "+" sign button at top left of calendar screen, and then edit it once it has gone onto the calendar. Qucik Events don't seem to disappear or change.

I tried your solution #2 (I have the same "New Event" problem) but iCal reacted in yet another strange way: the time I had typed in did not hold - it became 12:00 every time - but the rest of the info was intact.

What does it take to have Apple move on this? A class action? 😠
