iPhone 4s location wrong... Why?

My location on my 4s is completely out, it says I'm about 30 miles away from where I actually am. It does this 90% of the time! And I'm not sure what I can do to fix it. My iPad 2 and other family members iPhone 4 on the same wifi etc. doesn't have any prOblems with this.

I first posted about this problem back on Page 9 and cant believe how many people this is affecting.

However, I wanted some more answers so I made a Genius Bar appointment and I went in to my local Apple Shop in Southampton yesterday to see what they thought.

They guy that served me said "Ive never heard of anything like this" and asked his colleages and they said the same. Of course as soon as he looked at it the Location moved from Baghdad straight to Southampton and the time zone fixed itself. Lucky enough I took a few screen grabs of the problem so he could see.

I explained to him the problems and how theres a massive forum page about it online. I told him I tried restoring the phone and a few things on here put posted. The only thing he said he could try was to restore the phone doing a DFU restore (I think thats right) and rebuild it again. I could either let him do it or for me to do it myself at home. I let him do it and It took 15 minutes. That was 11am yesterday morning (Sunday 18th Dec) and as of now its still working fine. It seems a lot faster too.

The version of software on my phone is now 5.0.1 (9A406). Before he DFU restored it I had 5.0.1 (9A405).

Hopefully this has fixed the problem for me and I hope this will help a few of you out too. Fingers crossed because I know how annoying this problem is!!

Kerrlos, thank you for the feedback from your appointment with Apple's "Genius Bar". I was hoping for a better answer than "Ive never heard of anything like this"... They dont use iPhones i guess. They should be aware of the problem. There are 3 or 4 major issues with iPhone 4S or iOS 5.01 (i don't know what to blame): 1. Battery issues 2. SIM card recognition / drop calls 3. People can listen to you but you cant hear them until you open and close the headphone and 4. Location services. They should -at least- be aware of the problems even though they don't know the solution to them.

Locations services problem has been reported from the early days after the distribution of iOS 5.01 (for example see here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3482844?start=0&tstart=0), it is not something new.

As for the solution the Geniuses found, lets hope is a final one. But, my iPhone 4S 5.01 "miraculously" stopped having this problem at Dec 16 and since then works like a "miracle". No updates, no restores, no nothing. What i wanna say is that maybe the solution is not in an update to the new build of iOS 5.01 9A406. Since they are not even aware of the problem maybe this got away by chance and soon will be back.

Guess all we have to do is cross our fingers...

Further update. I have been back at my work location which has the GPRS /EGDE connectivity, which is where I had location errors last week. Over the weekend in Poole it worked perfectly but I expected this as I was on the O2 3G network. Today it worked perfectly, so perhaps there has been a solution. I did not update the iOS nor did Reset the phone in anyway. The only change I made was on the time, so I did not end up with the time in China. I also note very few new posts of problems perhaps the updates are being rolled out.
