iPhone 4s location wrong... Why?

I am also in Raleigh and with wi-fi on - my phone shows location is Kings Grant. Turned off Wi-fi and location corrected itself. iPhone 4S IOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

Yeah, let me echo the above. I'm in Raleigh, 4s, wi-fi on, and my location is showing as near Wilmington (~100miles off). I'm with ATT and 4S IOS 5.0.1 (9A405). This is a recent change and I can't seem to get it to correct.

Count me in on the Raleigh problem. I've never been to Kings Grant but now everyone thinks I have.

I've got four iPhones and they're all showing the same thing.

Must be an AT&T tower problem.

Add another user with this issue. I'm on AT&T. I have rather fascinating Runkeeper results. My last two runs are averaged around 30 miles per second over a 120 miles distance- erroneously starting in Wilmington/Kings Grant and finishing in Raleigh.

Add me to this list. Has anyone called AT&T? My wife has same phone, same service, same ATT account on family plan.

I don't think this is an ATT problem. When I am out driving around, with no wifi available, using ATT's network, my location is correct. However, when I come home and the phone connects to my wifi network, this is when it pops up saying Kings Grant... It occassionaly corrects itself for breif moments, but will go back to saying I am in Kings Grant within a minute...

I'm going to leave Wi-Fi off a bit and see if it matters. I just turned it off and then checked Google Maps and it pinned me in Kings Grant, but I guess it could have been cached in location services from when Wi-Fi was on.

I just tweeted @att asking for help. Search @tbilliar if you want to see it and if they respond. Wonder if it related to the storms that went thru this week?

It's not one network. I mean I have the problem on my 4S in the UK on giffgaff (Piggybacking on O2).

I think it's a problem with the 4S that hopefully will be fixed with 5.1.

I'm in the UK on Orange and it's only started happening in the last week or two. I've noticed it with my friends too having the same issue, when we put something on facebook, it's about 30 - 50 miles away. 😕

It does not seem to be Wi-Fi related at all. I turned off Wi-Fi and I have bounced from my false loaction in Kings Grant to eventually my actual location a number of times.

This is the location I'm getting. Wonder if there a tower or facility nearby?

Glad to see I'm not the only one in Raleigh experiencing this issue. Have 2 month old 3GS with iOS 5.0.1. Started seeing the Kings Grant location this past week. Seem to get this problem when connected to my WiFi at home. When I'm driving it corrects itself. I'll have to see what happens when I'm connected to other WiFi spots at work and around town. Decided to check my wife's phone and see that it's having the same issue. However, my sons iPad has the correct location on the Maps app using the same WiFi as our 2 phones.

Another post in a seperate discussion pointed me to a site that is used by Apple. http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php

I used the form to provide the lat, long coordinates of my router. We'll see if it helps.

My phone is now working fine as of Sunday evening. Others?

@marcames11 Mine is still wonky.

Apps relying on Location services displayed correct location on their map. Weather app also had the forecast for the correct location. Compass app was also displaying the correct Lat. Long. This was on the drive to work and in the parking lot outside of WiFi networks.

Same can be said for WiFi network inside of my office building. I'll try a couple of other known WiFi hotspots outside of my home to see if the transition from WiFi to cellular network is handeled properly by the phone. Then I'll see what happens when I get home.
