iPhone 4s location wrong... Why?

I don't know if that is right or not. Going to airplane mode turns off all transmitters, but GPS alone is just a receiver.

OK, just tested, and GPS IS turned off in airplane mode. I believe they are done by the same chip, so it may just turn off the chip that does 3G/2G and GPS. We know Wi-Fi can be turned back on....

I thought that since GPS is just a receiver, it might remain on, but either the software refuses to even try to get a location without either cell location or wi-fi location, or it is part of the same chip that does the cell phone operation. I know they combine multiple functions into the chips.

Skipped the "wobble" part and did everything else? Made sure that Time Zone was set to "automatic" when all this was done. Phone now automatically sees me in the right place (4s). No manual over rides required!

I have the same issue. But I am in USA. It says I am in Denver Colorado, which is a different time zone. When we jumped ahead to daylight savings, that's when I found out.

In order to set location and time, I have to do it manually. To set it automatically puts me in Denver, one hour behind

?!?

Ps. My gps location is correct.

If anyone is still experiencing a problem, have they updated to iOS 5.1 yet? I have updated and haven't seen any problem...so far.

My GPS issues corrected themselves last week. It has been working fine ever since. I did update to iOS 5.1 last Wendesday when it came out and it is still working properly.

I am living in Manitoba, Canada and am having the same issue. I have to turn my auto time zone off to set my time, and only then will it allow me to change the time zone to my actual location. Once I turn it back on, it goes back to the other time zone. And my gps location is correct too!?

Also, I've been trying to update and download the upgrade and all I get is an error message? Have you also had that problem?

Try this. Go to your location services. On the bottom is system services. Go in there and turn off setting time zone.

Then go back and set your time zone correctly. Leave auto set time set to on

Now go back and turn on setting time zone under location services.

This worked for me although I don't know why. Maybe on war over ridding the other and I needed to have the correct time zone set first

Mine has been working correctly. What I did:

1. Close all open applications.

2. Power cycle the phone.

Seemed to clear up the issue. From what I found in reading different article online - when you power cycle the phone, it clears all cached location data.

My phone location has been 100% correct since I did it early last week. I update to iOS 5.1 midweek and location data stayed correct.

My location data was never wrong, just time zone

It was stuck. And I have cycled my Phone 2 or 3 times since the update.

Unfortunately that didn't work. In order for my actual time zone to work, auto has to be turned off, whether I turn it off in locations or not. And either way, it goes back to the wrong city again?

I'm new to this whole iPhone world, so what is this cycling you guys speak of? Will that help? And do you have any idea as to why my download in install doesn't work when I go into the software update on my phone? I select it and it shows that it's downloading but then error download failed comes up after a minute or so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been busy the past week and have not had time to update my status. The issue cleared itself up Tuesday or Wednesday of last week on both of our iPhone 3GSs with iOS (5.0.1). We have updated both phones and our son's iPad to iOS (5.1). Everything with Location Services is working as expected even after the change to daylight savings time.

Wow! I have the exact same problem, only with an Ipod Touch?!

I live in Toronto, but my Ipod keeps changing the default city to Montreal... and Beijing?? lolwut

I change it, but it keeps changing back... as well, i turned off location services...

Help?
