iPhone 4s location wrong... Why?

My location on my 4s is completely out, it says I'm about 30 miles away from where I actually am. It does this 90% of the time! And I'm not sure what I can do to fix it. My iPad 2 and other family members iPhone 4 on the same wifi etc. doesn't have any prOblems with this.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5

Somebody else mentioned here that it is the Emoji keyboard causing the problem - how do you know? Does everyone who has posted here have Emoji? I'm loathe to reset all my settings on perhaps a hunch (no offence intended).

As far as reseting all your settings... that is what Backup and Restore are for! 🙂

It would be a fast fix if it is a conflict between Emoji sw and iOS. Question is which Emoji product, as I see several when looking at the app store.

I am based in the UK, but location services show me as being in China. This applies to Find my iPhone app, Fone Home app and Google maps. Does this mean my phone has been hacked, or the phone is faulty?

I tried a reset which put my phone back into the UK for about five minutes, after which it was back in China.

Although its annoying, we're missing the bigger picture: it renders the find phone app totally useless. The police are hardly going to go to china to look for it, if it gets stolen. It also puts me at risk. TheAA app relies on my gps location to find me, and if I call the emergency services theyll assume I'm in china.

Im in Singapore. Set my alarm at 7am. Had a presentation at 8am. Sady, the alarm never went off. When i woke up, my 4S shows 1.00am.. I thought it was the clock that went wrong so i snyced it with my pc but the problem was still there. Checked the time zone and im in saudi arabia. =_____='''

Im at a state interchange junction somewhere in the middle east. Googled and i cant seem to find a solution to my problem. After a few hours, I gave up and my phone miraclely changed back to Singapore time. I thought it was okay again but when i wake up the next morning, im in saudi arabia again. This afternoon i checked, im in a different part of middle east. Gosh. What is wrong with the location? I thought it was the teleco tower but when i use wifi, my location is still in middle east. Am using emijo but i will disable it and see how it goes.. A hard reset is not very convenient as exam is around the corner. sobss

What your saying goes along with the info that Mister Boo got from AppleCare. Assisted GPS will take location data from the celluar towers and know wifi locations to quickly find your position than can be done with GPS. Your carrier celluar towers also sends out the time to phone, how it changes for daylight savings (where observed) all by itself. So the problem might be comming from the network itself.

I'd like to offer to ImCB and anyone with this problem to go into Settings > Locations Services > System Services (VERY bottom of Loc. Serv.) and make sure Setting Time Zone is OFF.

Also go to Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically to OFF as well.

This should at least keep you in your correct time zone. You of course can either do this and then fix your local time, or perform it after a reboot has returned you to your correct local time.

I live in Girvan, Scotland. For a while my phone reported that it was in Langholm which is in the Scottish Borders, some 100+ miles away. Then yesterday it decided that I was actually in Kingston, Jamaica! I Wish!!!

The problem started for me when I used location based reminders for the first time. When I returned home from work my phone told me it was 2pm, though it was 7pm. I deleted all of my location based reminders and it went back to the correct timezone. "Great" thinks I. Until this morning. Alarm set for 7am didn't go off, phone thought it was 2am.

Going into Settings>General>Date & Time and switching off Set Automatically fixes the time issue. It does NOT however, make FindMyiPhone work. Or Facebook (I'm NOT in Jamaica friends!), or Run Keeper (I'm NOT running in Jamaica!) iPhone 4S with 5.0.1 installed. Oh, and wife's iphone 4S with 5.0.1 has the EXACT same problem so it's definitely software related.

And we're both Vodafone, not O2 as others with this problem reported so I doubt it's a network issue.

so, i've been having the same problem for a few days now... i've tried everything i could think of, then i found this thread and did everything i found here as well. none of them worked. at least not in the expected way. i've removed the emoji keyboard and reset network settings (not all settings). now i'm in spain, not in france, as i was till now. and i should've been in romania this whole time, that's where the phone is 🙂

also, i don't know if anyone noticed this, but all the stuff going on might be something related to apple's servers...

since this started to happen my macbook's location is also incorrectly being reported when using the find my iphone app. it's not being reported as being in another country but in the same city where i live, except it's at the wrong address, about 10 miles away.

for what is worth, my carrier is orange.

I'm also experiencing major issues re location! I've been in Langholm which is about 200 miles away from where I am in the highlands of Scotland - today however I'm in Moscow and on their time too so messed up my reminders and nearly made me late picking my son up from school! Have done all the usual resets on iTunes etc but only puts me back to my current location for 10mins. It says the weather in Moscow is 40 degrees, which is mad but also says my hometown in highlands is 38 degrees which is about 37 degrees out!! Not happy, my wife has iPhone 4 and has had no problems. Have reported issue to vodafone and apple but they haven't got a clue either!! Will try again tomorrow and keep you posted. David

i think i may have found the culprit. for me, the location issues started when i asked Siri "where am i?". i don't live in the us so Siri directions doesn't work for me. Siri's answer was "sorry, i can't provide maps and directions in france", and i'm in romania 🙂

just to test this, i've enabled siri on my girlfriend's iphone 4s, which was reporting it's location perfectly, and asked the same question. it answered correctly, "can't provide maps and directions for romania" but 5 minutes later, it started behaving the same as my iphone, reporting it's location somewhere in estonia 🙂

hope this helps.
