Google maps appears in blocks

Today I noticed that the Google Maps app on my ipad2 is appearing in blocks as I zoom in or out. Each adjoining block shows a different but unconnected part of a map (bit like a jigsaw puzzle.) I thought it might have been a slow server, but a speed check of my wifi showed speeds in excess of 25Mbps so it wasn't that. If you zoom in closely, the blocks disappear, but it very annoying when you zoom out to see up to 50 square blocks onnthe screen. Any suggestions?

I officially posted a bug with Apple. I am part of the developer program.

I found this out:

While connecting to maps data using normal connections inside Japan, the problem exists.

When I connect to a VPN in the United States, once I download new tiles, all the newly downloaded tiles work perfectly. Preexisting tiles in the cache are still messed up, but after those get cleared out and redownloaded, they work fine.

This seems to be affecting a larger and larger portion of IOS users in Japan, according to twitter searches. As far as I know, it does NOT affect android users in Japan. This leads me to believe that it is an Apple problem, not a Google problem.

I have also gotten confirmation from a developer in China that is experiencing the same problem.

What parts of the globe are people connecting from? Maybe we can pin point something.

Yep in Melbourne Australia too. I only noticed the problem after doing the IOS5 upgrade when I was checking new features etc. So I cannot say if it is only since the upgrade.

As previously posted, Maps worked ok for a while yesterday afternoon but blocks scrambled again this morning. Maybe I was connecting to a different Google data server at e time.

iPad is connected via wifi, I will try a different wifi connection to see if the problem changes.

So, from my reading here and elsewhere, it would appear that in at least Japan, China, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong etc there is a very significant fault with a key Apple supplied (and mandated) app on the iPhone and iPad and used also in at least Find my Friends etc. it affects both iOS 4 and iOS 5 machines.

One assume it is, at least potentially, affecting millions of uses across Asia and the Pacific.

Yet....

After two days;

Hmmmm. Methinks they are not very motivated or competent about follow up or follow through.

I am in India and having the same problem with iPad 2 iOS5. I don't recall exactly when this started but it was about the same as others have mentioned - a few days ago. I had the iPad for about a month prior to that and maps was working fine. I used it a lot both in India and the US and never faced the issue.

I also have Google Maps installed on my BlackBerry and I am not facing any issue there.

So far it sounds like an Asia Pacific issue with Apple. Might something not be working correctly that just serves this region?
