iTunes 10.5 AirPlay Issues: won't connect to speakers

Hey all!

I'm faceing some troubles with iTunes and AirPlay. iTunes just won't connect to my AirPort Express. Everytime I try choosing my speakers, the AirPlay Icon just doesn't get blue. Recently I had to restart the Computer. After that everything went fine. After a few days in the morning: same issue. Has someone the same problems I have?

Thanks in advance.

Yours Thomas.

PS: I'm using iTunes 10.5 on a MacBook Pro 13" 2.26 GHz with Mac OS 10.7.2

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Thanks NW Rob - correct answer - did that - I suspect it wont help my run for an hour then stop problem but let's see. I am starting to suspect the Modem - seems like some pause in the signal is enough for Itunes to lose the connection to the AMP and it does not find it again. Airfoil, if booted up when Apple is in that state also fails to find the Amp but I suspect Airfoil is working through Itunes in some way - hijacks Itunes so maybe if the issue is Itunes then Airfoil has the same problem inherited. The issue might even be a Pioneer issue but I cant seem to get anything useful on the pioneer forum. Anyway I have Ipv6 off now so thanks for that

Ariel Again

Blocking IPV6 has not fixed my issue - still cuts out after an hour or less

Downgraded Itunes to 10.3 based on other forum comments - goes for much longer but still cuts out.

If I have interactive firewall on immediately the music stops the AMP sends a message to itunes. My theory is that Itunes, or the modem cuts the connection then the Amp goes looking for Itunes but fails as Itunes simply refuses to find the AMP on the network again even though it it is clearly there as I can Ping it. If I turn off the Amp and turn it on again things re-connect in Itunes.Really frustrating!

Ariel Again

Gave up on the Windows environment - never got beyond one hour of play no matter what I did.. Bought an Ipad and after some mucking around (froze the Amp's Ip address which seemed to do the trick but who knows it may have been some other thing). this plays ok as long as I have it set to repeat or random. If not set like this, then as soon as the Album finishes the VSX-1021 disconnects and has to be rebooted to reconnect. Starting up after turning off the Ipad means turning on the Ipad then turning off the amp and turning it on again and eventually after what seems an eterniity the VSX icon appears on the Ipad. I would not buy a Pioneer VSX 1021 again - too complicated, poor display and if one uses the buttons on the front of the Amp you need some stange logic to follow what it does - just too smart for its own good. And this dropping out problem I am pretty sure is down to the AMP not Itunes!

Ariel123,

I don't think it is the pioneer amp. I have an airport express hooked to an amp.

I have win7 on the laptop and OS SL on the mini.

On Win7 I upgraded to itunes 10.5.2.11. I dissabled IPv6. But once I quit itunes and restart, or the laptop goes to sleep, or the song is ended and I wait too long to click a new one, I need to reset the AEX. Meaning pull it out and plug it back in. Me too I'm frustrated.

The Mac with Itunes 10.5 on the other hand works very well. I don't intend to upgrade itunes or the OS.

Maybe worth while mentioning I have a Belkin Router.

My mom is on Lion and has the same problems. Upgraded itunes and disabled IPv6, but problem persisted.

So first turn on itunes (start at boot) then plug in the AEX. And make sure you keep playing songs.

Strangest thing is that she could stream youtube sound to the AEX from her ipad while itunes (or remote on her ipad) couldn't anymore.

This confirms it is an itunes problem.

I can't grasp Mac lets this happen. Really, I can't. They don't even communicate about it!

I have heard about people buying a Airport extreme in stead ot their regular router. To no avail. The problem still persisted. Repairing permissions helps for some.

Hello Jupiterman

Thanks for the post.

Well some time ago I had discovered that the dreaded -15000 error did not occur if I turned off the firewall. I had attempted exception rules but I am thinking I did this on the outbound side! Maybe I will look at it again. I actually do not use windows firewall but use Eset but it has the same sort of capability. I think though that there are two separate questions, maybe 3.

1) cant connect at all being this firewall issue.

2) drop-out after an hour or even within minutes when in Windows on PC - still dont know what this is and it can happen even on the Ipad but much less often - maybe radio interference

3) Ipad fails to find the AMP when the Ipad is turned on and one has to turn off the AMP and turn it on again or reboot the Modem. I think it is reasonable to expect Itunes to find the amp when Itunes is turned on but maybe I expect too much!
