iTunes 10.5 AirPlay Issues: won't connect to speakers

Hey all!


I'm faceing some troubles with iTunes and AirPlay. iTunes just won't connect to my AirPort Express. Everytime I try choosing my speakers, the AirPlay Icon just doesn't get blue. Recently I had to restart the Computer. After that everything went fine. After a few days in the morning: same issue. Has someone the same problems I have?

PS: I'm using iTunes 10.5 on a MacBook Pro 13" 2.26 GHz with Mac OS 10.7.2

Super Solution!

My problem was almost the same as that of thomasfromfreiburgalthough I could sometimes get connected and use airplay e.g. after I restarted the mac with iTunes on it from which I streamed the music. Or may be after a wake up of that system. When I did switch off the airport express and turned it on again I also lost the connection and could not reconnect again.


I run your solution for more than a week now and it just works!


I am glad, my girlfriend is glad and our 2 daughters ar glad! 🙂

Hi Again,

Well I got so sick of VISTA that I am now the PROUD owner of a 27" iMac. THE BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE.


I've been having the same problem with the new imac but found that if you make the changes with itunes open it doesn't fix the problem.


So make sure that itunes is closed when you use this solution and it works fantastically!!! SO HAPPY 🙂

Probably CaptaiNemo you have a different Issue review your Channel setup in system info apps:


My MBP is:


Supported Channels: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165


If this in no the one the %GHz network is taking you probably are not seeing, if you are using time capsule go to airport utility in wireless option look for 5GHz Channel and change

So angry that I've been putting up with this by power cycling my Mac and/or my airport express to get around it until now..... almost criminal that such a simple fix is available, yet I have to do half an hour of internet searching to find it!!! 😠😟 why is the angry emoticon not available? I'd post 10 of them right now.....

Thanks a lot. I tried this trick some weeks ago and it didn't work. In the menatime I also ran repair write permissions and the HDD through the disk utility. Now setting the network back to v4 cured the problem.

I did see the Airplay icon all the time but was not able to connect to the Airport Express. Finally it worked. Thanks a lot
