Had the same issue here with one of my AirPort Express units - my iMac often would just sit there connecting to the unit forever, while all other devices could send audio to it fine and sending to other AirPlay devices would work. Restarting the AirPort Express wouldn't solve it. Restarting the iMac consistently would.

Tried the hint in this thread disabling IPv6 on Ethernet and issue gone.

iTunes 10.6.1 under OS X 10.7.3

Mike's solution worked great, however Apple really should fix this. Do they even look at these support forums?

This fixed it for me, too. The problem cropped up just yesterday and only a restart of the computer would bring back the iTunes connection to Airport Express. Then the connection would crap out the next time the computer went to sleep. Had been working without issues previously. Running 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.3. Mike's fix fixed it without a restart.

As of July 14, 2012, this is still the solution! (networksetup -setv6off Ethernet -and- networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi)

My symptoms: iPhone (iOS 5 fully up-to-date) Music app would play to a boombox plugged into my Airport Express, but iTunes on my Mac Mini could not. The Mac Mini showed the multiple speakers option in iTunes, but would not connect to the Airport Express when I tried checking the box in the multiple speakers pane.

Setup: Mac Mini connected by ethernet to my main router (Airlink router); Airport Express connected to the main router as a WDS configuration.

This solved my Apple TV issue with Wireless Range Extender from TP-Link, thank you so much!

I've told TP-Link about the fix too, as they'd been so helpful in trying to resolve the issue.

I found another solution on the web (http://irwinhkwan.wordpress.com/2012/02/27/135/#comments). The solution appears (so far) to be to turn on "Host" mode for ivp6 in the "advanced" pane of the AirPort Utility 5.6.1. This has allowed simultaneous use of AirPlay and ivp6

Mikes version also worked perfectly for me, allowing me to stream again. Wanted to investigate Greg's link as this seems to be the more flexible solution. How do I undo Mike's? I tried "networksetup -setv6on Wi-Fi" but that didn't work. I restarted and put my mac to sleep to see if that would reset it to on, but no luck.

Any ideas?

This fix solved my problem instantly. I also was able to both see airport express & apple tv but sometimes the speaker just would not connect even though it showed up in iTunes. Hoping this is a permanent fix. Thank you! :-)

To turn IPv6 back on just go to the 'Network' settings in 'System Preferences' and click on the 'Advanced' button. Look for the pull-down menu next to 'Configure IPv6:' and set it to 'Automatically.' That is the default setting and will turn IPv6 back on again.

Hi Mark, Ooo excited but unclear - I am having problem with my mac and TP Link Av200 to apple TV. I have tested unit and know it's working. Problem with Apple TV is it's out of range TP Link = solution. Hopefully.

When I add TP Links all seems fine but only setting and computer buttons appear - even though the IP address is set up correctly - it just needs one more stpe...can u help sir?

Doing this simple mod on my iTunes 11 Mountain Lion box fixed all my troublesome AirPlay issues. AirPlay now seems to be very reliable. Previously, I had intermittent connectivity issues. They were making me nuts, and driving the family crazy.
