iCloud mail - POP client password issue?

Up until last night both my wife and I could check our email via POP clients.

Since about Midnight Sydney time, IMAP is fine but both POP clients reports password issues (passwords unchanged and are of course the same as the ones that do work for IMAP).

The glib system status page says "everything" is fine (one green tick covers all services).

Thoughts?

this will sadly enough not do...

Why do we have to give up POP? I don't want an imap, I want pop... How come nobody seemed to know that icloud was not going to be imap only????

Why are all of the discussions right now all going downhill fast with all the questions about this? Why was this not made clear up front in language that normal mac users can understand????

I now wished I had not swapped to icloud... And a lot of people with me...

This will not do. Apple can not say from monday on tuesday that pop has done... I want my mails on my computer and not on some cloud where I can not reach them when I don't have an internet connection...

I WANT MY POP BACK...

Yes we could use outlook but that is not my choice. We have been using mail for so long, why should we have to switch email program because we prefer to work pop over imap???

I am livid that I never saw or heard that icloud was only going to be imap... Not nice!

I think furthermore that apple has to support pop or that it does not matter what email app you use... If apple does not support pop there is no way we can use it I think... correct me if I am wrong.

One thing you can do is to create a special gmail email account (ie me+your mobile me/icloud id), turn pop on for that in the preferences (there is a panel for POP matters).

Then add a rule to your mobileme/icloud (via web interface) that forwards all email "To" your mobileme/icloud id to the new gmail address.

Then change your email client to POP check the new gmail address.

This works quite nicely, once you do the one-time setup.

And if I can direct you to my OP.

I too have iCloud as one on my mail providers and up until now it has very happily supported POP at the client.

This is the whole reason for the #@$!#$!# thread.

If I now “have” to replace my POP email client with an IMAP one and re download some 85,000+ messages just to use Apple’s “Mail” software I won’t be happy.

For what it's worth....

I called my nearest Apple store and asked them to send this iCloud/Mail/POP up the chain. The Genius totally understood why I would want my iDevices to have a different structure than my Mac with IMAP. He also told me that many people are upset at this since they have being hearing about it for a few days. He promised me he would send it up the chain.

I also sent a polite email to Tim Cook...a long shot but worth a try. If they hear enough about this then I'm hopeful they will bring back POP support for iCloud...eventually. So it is worth it for all of us...and spread the word...to call or write Apple in their various channels, even if it is only to the retail stores.

No idea what you mean, you said (in response to Catherine Lucas "Assuming your mail client supports IMAP ....)

Mac Mail supports iMap and iCloud is iMap only (regardless of the past) so what exactly is your issue?

What do your existing 85,000 plus messages have to do with how she gets her mail?
