weather widget not working

As of today, the standard Weather Widget is not updating on 10.5 or 10.4 Macs, both at work and home. Wondering if AccuWeather is having an issue.

You may also need to double check the permissions are set correctly. I don't know if this is something that running permissions repair with Disk Utility will take care of, or if you need to do it by hand. I notice all mine are set to owner system and group wheel on the original folder and all the files inside that I bothered checking.

first thing i did was to verify and repair disc permissions to try to fix the weather widget. that is about the extent of my trouble shooting capabilities. it didn't work so found myself here after googling the problem. the wunderground weather widget works for me but prefer the original widget. i am glad to see it is a real problem and not something i did on my own to mess it up.

Limnos is hard at work on the problem as we speak, I feel certain he'll have more info on this later. 🙂

Limnos couldn't get the fix to work this morning despite careful attention to setting up permissions as they were on the original Tiger version, but is wondering if that is because they were working on the servers and everything came up when I returned a few hours later. I think I may have gotten the fix to work, only because the widget is now working on my computer with the patched system, so at least it didn't break it when they all came back into service.

There is something that we can do onn our computers...

I had the same problem recently with any city on "El capitan". After lots of debugging I observed that it has to do with the headers that the WidgetClient sends when request weather data and the chance that the returning data requires more than two TCP/IP packages. That's why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, because it depends on the network connection.

I modified the Widget code and now it seems to work always. You can look at the solution at:
