iOS 5.0.1 - Made my iPhone 4S battery performance worse!

I upgraded my iphone 4S to the 5.0.1 release today. However, I've noticed that my battery life has actually gotten worse since I upgrade. For example, I've been home for approximately 30 minutes and my battery has gone down in 8%. In the 30 minutes, I had a 30 second phone call and sent 3 text messages. I am connected to our wi-fi (which is a strong connection) and I have re-started my phone.

Please let me know if anyone else is having any issues!?!!?

Apple - Can you please fix the iphone 4s battery issues? I might as well go get a 4g android phone if the battery life remains this poor.

I fully charged my phone after the update. Then used the phone normally as I would on regular days. I've never seen my charge drop below 60-70% at the end of my work day before the update. After the update, it dropped to below 50% at the end of my day.

In fact I again fully charged it last night. Then unplugged it in the morning. After about 3 hours of standby I've already dropped 10%. And yes I've done a hard reset of my phone.

Is there a way to go back to iOS 5.0.1 so I can test if my battery life improves again?

Guys...trust me...try my method which I posted today to user Wijanarka. Here it is again for those who are still looking for solutions :

To all you guys out there who have iOS 5.1 battery issues, here's my findings after an upgrade from 5.0.1 yesterday morning.

With all the notifications / locations services off, my battery drained quicker. All I had on was the 3G and wifi on. With a little trail and error I have found that once you are home in your own wifi range, then turn off the 3G and switch wifi on. When you are out then do the opposite i.e turn off the wifi and turn on 3G. Battery life improves dramtically but with both 3G and wifi on all the time, battery drains much faster. Give it a try and post your comments.

I haven't change anything except installing the 5.1 upgrade and my battery is draining quite fast. I always leave my Wifi on and 3G so when I come to the office and at home, my phone will connect to the Wifi automatically.

So I am sorry to say but that is not a solution but an inconvenient work around switching wifi on and off.

Trying SmogTM's solution now...

The iPhone does not work that way. Here is how it works:

If you have enabled Cellular Data, then your phone will use the cellular networks for Internet access. If you have 3G network and 3G enabled, it will use that, if not, it will use EDGE. As soon as your iPhone connects to an WiFi network it will disable use of Cellular Data for Internet -- without you having to switch it off manually.

This means, that if you are often in WiFi coverage, you are better off to leave WiFi switched on at all time, but disable "Ask to join networks". You will get better battery time, than if you disable WiFi in such situations.

If you have to disable 3G in order to have better battery life, it means you have bad 3G network coverage. When you disable 3G, you disable both the 3G usage for voice (always connected to the network) and the 3G usage for data (disabled as soon as your iPhone connects to an WiFi network). So.. if your network allows it, you will be better to just switch 3G off, unless you need really high speed Internet access (EDGE goes up to around 200 Kbps - plenty for most mobile uses anyway).

I thought this update would be able to solve the battery issue, but I am finding my battery life to be worse!!

It seems soo wrong to have to disable/turn off functions to extend the performance!

When Apple announced the Iphone 4s and touted the stats, did they say "you can't use a majority of the functions this phone is capable of to obtain these stats"??

Maybe it is the solar flares to blame?

If I purchased the phone with the AppleCare plus (or whatever it is called) in late Oct 2011 will I be eligible for a replacement?

p.s. I have done a reset and am now draining battery to 0% to do a full charge cycle.

Two 1-hour calls draining 20% seems on par with Apple's claim of 8 hours talk time on 3G (14 hours on 2G, depending on which one you are on). Not sure what the number should be if on WIFI, since regulat phone call goes through the baseband instead of WIFI anyway (unless you use VoIP app for the conference call). I got the impression somewhere that Apple's goal for iOS 5.1 would be 10-hour of regular usage, and 200-hr 'standby' (actually idling the phone and not do anything with it, NOT the same as the Stand By time under Setting>General>Usage)

iOS 5.0.1 - Made my iPhone 4S battery performance worse!
