Iphone 4s Battery life WORSE with upgrade. Anyone else seeing same?

I upgraded my new iPhone 4s today and now my battery life is so much worse. I can literally watch it drain by the minute. Is anyone else experiencing this?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

If you have Usage value increasing even though you are not using it, i.e it's in stanby, like this:

User uploaded file

This most likely indicates that a process is running in the background and prevent your phone to really put itself in standby mode.

I had that with my iPhone 4 in the past and I found that it was caused by a VoIP app called Fring that was keeing my phone active, and in fact using a monitoring app like activity monitor touch, I found that not only Fring was keeping my phone up but also eating half of my CPU power all the time.

Normally, Usage should reflect the amount of time you are using your phone, so when the screen is on or when you are calling. It can be a bit higher, because of multitasking background processes, but if you see the "Usage" value increasing very closely to the "Stand by" value, even when the phone was in standby for a long time, then it's most probably a bogus app process running in the background.

Apps that can run in the background are apps using either of the following services: VoIP, GPS (background location), Audio (background audio playing), background downloading.

So try to find the app(s) keeping your phone alive, and uninstall them (don't just kill them, this doesn't kill the background process, particularly for VoIP apps), and see if it's better. Just killing the bad app or restarting the phone or both don't kill the bad process, particularly for VoIP apps that have to be able to receive calls all the time.

My Iphone 4s 5.0.1 also has a problem with the battery life. I think this phone is a high technology and I hope Apple can fix it.

I do not understand why Apple has removed the button 3G/2G, I'm sure if Apple put it back, extend the battery get many users.

I hope Apple in the coming days give us an answer to this problem, if not so I would feel very disappointed.

I dont know whats happening an apparently Apple doesnt either...

My usage meter is still not working by the way...

I left my house last night at 6:30 with my family to visit some friends and didnt even touch my phone, just left it in my pocket, it was on with just 3G no wifi, recieved maybe 25 - 30 emails during this period and it drained OVER 30% by the time we went home at 10:00pm....how can this be acceptable?

Also, funny thing is, earlier in the day yesterday I went to the WTC Memorial site here in NY (which on a side note... is unbelievable) and took maybe 180 pictures and about three 2 minute movies and saw just over 40% battery drain over the time period that we were there which was from about 9am to 11am...that seems like it should be expected with heavy usage...so how can I have 40% with heavy usage and just over 30% with no usage in the same day???

Perhaps its not a software issue at all...maybe a bad batch of batteries??

And the other thing to note is...there is no way Apple employees arent experiencing the same things as we are...we cant be isolated in these expereinces...they need to do something...I know they will, they are some of the smartest tech guys on the planet, its just frustrating to have to go throigh this every now and then...

My battery is lasting way longer than it used to. I would charge my phone in the morning and again at night. Last night at 6 pm it was changd to 100 percent.. it's been on all night and 14 hours later it is sitting at 78%. This is much better than before the 5.0.1 update. Don't know why some phones work and some don't... that is the most confusing part. I didn't do anything other than install the update. I have the new Iphone 4S.

No disrespect to some users, but the variation could just be down to how users are using their phones, the software annd the way it is setup.

For example, if I use a Geo reminder, I can literally watch my battery draining. Some of the other location based services also eat batteries. Do the users seeing problems have the screen set to 100% brighhtness (the default).

Had the 4S been a totall new design, I could maybe have understood a hardware issue. There may also be a bad batch of batteries. But I know a couple of people with 4S's and they had not touched settings and use geo reminders a lot. They had terrible battery life. I got them to change brightness of screen, stop using ge0 reminders and hey presto - acceptable battery life.

Sure you should be able to use a feature included in hardware/software without it affecting a battery that much, but nothing is perfect. Not even Apple.

I've had no problems with ios 5.0.0 on my iPhone 4. The past two nights since I've installed iOS 5.0.1, my battery has drained over 11% overnight with no apps open. I haven't installed any new apps or changed any settings since I've installed the update. There is clearly an software problem, don't listen to the guys with high level counts, they offer no solutions and say "my battery is perfect restore your phone" blah blah blah. Apple has gone so far downhill recently. This is beyond unacceptable and I don't anticipate any fix soon.

After owning 5 iPhones. I will tell you that the battery meter is run by the operating system. Its a series of 17 pictures and for the most part, the phone is lying to people. 99% of you arent going to let your phones completely die before you charge them. I will tell you that I did this last night and the last 3% of the phone lasted an hour and 10 minutes with every app running in the background with the flash on and running back to back speed tests with Pandora running. the last 1% of the battery lasted over 20 minutes while I was doing this.

People are seeing the "battery meter" go down when in many cases, isnt doing what it looks like its doing. This is the same thing you would see if you were driving a car and your speedometer read 90 when you knew you were putting along in a residential area. The battery metery is lying. In order to calibrate your battery meter, run the phone until it shuts off and then charge it completely. Also like posted above, this is a new operating system and there are many apps that arent oiOS 5 certified. And those cause memory leaks like no ones business. Kill the phone then charge it. My battery went down 5% in 13 minutes, I killed the phone and its now at 97% with 46 minutes of use and 2 hours of standby
