Last night I went to sleep around 11:30-12 with 77% battery remaining. I just waked up at 6am now, the battery remains 67% now. There only 3 emails came in in the past 6-7 hours while I was sleeping. And no background app was running.

At this time, the usage is 1 hour 50 mins and standby is 14 hours 2 mins

I will keep monitoring the battery life in a standby mode today.

No Problems here (iPhone or iPad)

Complaining about the problem doesn't help diagnose the problem.

People should specify your "Usage time information" along with your "Standby information" in your post. (It helps to draw comparisons)

They are Found in: Settings>General>Usage

If your a heavy texter, emailer, surfer, chatter or using apps that require heavy data transmission, your battery is going to die.... fast.

Try closing all your apps and as you open new ones make a note of your battery life. I wouldn't be surprised if a pattern of usage connects the dots to determine what is actually causing the problems.

I can easily replicate battery drain by using any app that requires heavy downloading of images and large documents. Unfortunately a battery can only do what it's designed to do (power the device) when you load the device up with heavy use of the processor and other componants (ie. display, wireless) the battery is going to be consumed faster.

My iPhone 4S was lasting about six hours max before the update. After its lasting about eight hours. In addition I shut off most of the location services, changed the email from push to fetch, etc. So I am thinking the update really didnt do much. This really is a mess. I switched to use this for work. How am I going to travel with a phone that cant last half my day on the road?

I updated my iPhone 4s to 5.01 last night. I hadn't had any battery problems with my new phone under 5.0.

I plugged it in last night and unplugged it this morning upon waking up. Used it to check email for about 10 minutes and noticed the battery was at 87%! I literally watched the number drop whil using it. I went online to see if I was alone and was pleased to see its not just mine.

Clearly there is something amiss here...

I replaced my iphone 4s once already within 3 days of getting it. the battery was awful and not only that but also applications are crashing on me especially the Mail application. I booked another appointment this coming saturday for crashing problems such the opening the camera from lockscreen (crashes), Mail (crashes), spotlight (sometimes doesnt work), notification sounds (without new notifications), EVEN WORSE BATTERY AFTER UPDATING. I think most probably the phone will be replaced again.

If my battery is not significatly better with the next replacement i will ask for a refund and go from there.

So how many of you have done a hard reset (Sleep + Home button for 10 seconds) and/or complete wipe and then restore from backup?

Everyone has mentioned their issue, but haven't mentioned what they've tried to rectify it. If you want Apple to help, you should probably provide more information than just saying you're losing battery power.

I had a slight battery issue with my 2nd iPhone 4s (had an unrelated issue), but after I wiped and restored it works perfect. My iPhone and iPad run just fine.

You mind as well try and do a complete wipe and restore, because that's what they're going to do if you take it to an Apple store anyway!

I have not loaded the 5.01 update because I am now happy as is after turning off my corp. microsoft exchange email account. I was losing 15% per hour or more prior to turning off that email/calendaring account.

If you happen to have an exchange account try turning it off. Top off your battery and give it a test. I am now getting 2-3 days without recharging with average use.. some phone and texting, etc. If I charge to 100% and disco from the charger at night and leave ther phone idle I awaken to 99% remaining.

give it a try and post the results.

regards,

Charlie

If your battery drains so quickly, it is surely due to some background process. It is not necessarily a User App.

There is a hint already published on several websites. Open Settings -> Location Services, scroll down to the bottom of the list and check the System Services. Turn off Diagnostics, iAds, Timezone.

Also make sure that you do not synchronize Documents and Data with iCloud.
