1st Gen Nano Recall Notification

Finally! I got notification from Apple this evening that they will be replacing my 1st gen nano. I had to verify serial number, but other than that they said they will send me packing materials and instructions to send it back and they will send me a replacement. They didn't say what they would replace it with (refurbish 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen...). Anyone have an inkling?

Saintsevens, you answered a question that wasn't asked. It's one thing to offer helpful information, but another to translate your preferences into an imperitive disguised as a recommendation. Saying "don't do it" is unnecessary. Also, many people, even those who would have preferred to have a replacement 1st-gen, have reported that the 6th gen is a high-quality device, so to refer to it as a "junky...joke," without providing the reasons for your assessment, is just hyperbole. If you think green-guy18 might not know what Apple has been sending to people (even after 370 replies to this thread), then it would be enough to simply inform him of that fact.

i thought you were gonna let your account die off and never come back to apple as you said previously to deggie

what was the point of that comment, if you are so concerned about other people in the replacement program you should create another topic in the forum to warn people or down apple

either way i don't see why your making it such a point to put apple out as such bad people

but if you really want to put so much time into than why not go all out and create your own forum about it and quit using apple's forum,it's such a contradiction

Just an update on my replacement journey:

Submitted request on Sunday March 18th, 2012

Received mail-in packaging on Tuesday March 20th, 2012

Mailed in iPod 1st Generation on Wednesday March 21st, 2012

Receiving notification that it was received on Friday March 23rd, 2012

Received notification that a replacement iPod was mailed on Monday March 26th, 2012

Used serial number in notification email to register product with my Apple ID, which is showing the product as a 6th generation iPod nano. I will confirm details when it is delivered later today.

All in all, the process was quick and easy for me. Clearly a difference from a few months ago.
