1st Gen Nano Recall Notification

Finally! I got notification from Apple this evening that they will be replacing my 1st gen nano. I had to verify serial number, but other than that they said they will send me packing materials and instructions to send it back and they will send me a replacement. They didn't say what they would replace it with (refurbish 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen...). Anyone have an inkling?

So i just recieved my (refurbed) ipod 6Gen. When i turned it on the first thing I saw was that the battery was half used. Firstly if your gonna give me a refurbed the apple inc should atleast put the ipod back to factory settings. I mean really?! Also that it was on Fitness+ when i turned it on so i have no idea whether the ipod was played with before being shipped off or if it was even fixed (refurbed) before being sent off.

I am currently putting it back to factory settings because i like to start from scratch not from where someone else left off. That just ****** me off that something for me isn't even in the blank form even used items are put back to factory settings.

Anyways I like to ipod since its small enough to fit in my pocket no prob and I got it for free since my old 1gen had a cracked screen and the internal memory is broken.....i stepped on it so yea.....i got a refurb for free even though my is bust and i still have another 1gen nano with my songs and its battery life is still good, though it is one of the groups where i can send it in and get a 6gen.

SO....I have a 6gen and a old 1gen for the keeping. That is what i got. Hoped this helped anyone.

Also for a quick note, did anyone have any probs with there battery life? Cause if they did I want ot know so I can send mine in and get a different one or get it fixed.

Good on you Kerris, you had a wrecked ipod and you got back a refurbished unit. Then there are people like me who had a prestine, like new 1G ipod and had it replaced with a refurbished (used) unit that someone returned because of problems. Some people think that oh well its a big company and they can get away with this, and probably will, nevertheless we should speak up!

I got my info directly from Apple because some people here were saying that theirs came with a full year warranty while, when I looked mine up online it said the warranty was expired. The problem is that the warranty info online is incorrect and, if it is a refurbished unit, the info may or may NOT have been updated from the original owner's warranty period.

Bottom line is that no matter what it says online, you have only a 90 day warranty (because they consider that your TRYE warranty, whihc was on your 1G unit, expired years ago). If it says 1 year and you submit it wor warranty work in 6 months, you WILL be charged for it because their system knows you only have 90 days. (Now why they -- a computer company -- have two systems with different data, I have no idea.) Feel free to call Apple yourself; they will confirm the 90-day warranty on all 1G replacement units.

to be honest: I don't care about any warranty .

If this thing breaks I'll throw it away and use my phone to listen to my music.

This 6G Ipod really p....s me completely off.

- It doesn't work with winamp which the old one did ( I hate Itunes)

- The audio cable to my car stereo makes noise ( I guess now I need a special overexpensive Apple certified cable)

- It is impossible to use it blind while driving

Is very likely the last Apple product I ever bought......at least it was free.

I am not at all happy about the 6G either, but at least it works fine in my car (with the same generic, Apple-supplied cable I had been using with both my 4G and 5G nanos) and that way I can still use it but don't have to screw around with it and it's teeny tiny controls. If it had NOT worked in my car, I would have just given it away to someone since I do still have a 4G nano (very flaky since its warranty expired) and a 5G nano... and I bought a refurbished 1G off of eBay.

I just got my second replacement unit today. It took just 3 weeks from the time they received my first 1G until the day I got the replacement (but it took longer than 3 weeks to get the box to ship it back in -- submitted request in November but did not receieve the box until well into December). This time, I got the padded envelope 2 days after I requested it, and it only took Apple from the 8th (when they received my old unit back... there was a 2 day shipping delay because of a partially unreadable shipping label) to the 17th to ship it out. They attempted to deliver it yesterday when I was at work, but I received it today.

I feel bad for people who have had really long delays even once they sent their old unit back, but I have no complaints about THAT part of the replacement program.
