1st Gen Nano Recall Notification

Finally! I got notification from Apple this evening that they will be replacing my 1st gen nano. I had to verify serial number, but other than that they said they will send me packing materials and instructions to send it back and they will send me a replacement. They didn't say what they would replace it with (refurbish 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen...). Anyone have an inkling?

Did someone contact you back to tell you they would not send you a 1G or did you just receive the 6G replacement? (Sorry... I know you were hopeful. You can buy a refurbished 1G on eBay, but you'll have to take your chances on whether it, too, has the bad battery... the first one I bought did and the second one I bought did not.. but that means that I will now have TWO 6G nanos that I don't want, but have a refurb 1G that is ok))

Yes first i called 1-800-275-2273 Apple Inc. Cupertino CA and spoke to a Customer care supervisor named Manny he told me i couldn't get a 1st gen replacement i then spoke with his boss a guy named Joel who then refered me to A Public relations officer of Apple named Shelly, Shelly first told me that she would sent me a first Gen replacement then called me back and said she could not then strung me along for 5 days with the hope of some resolution that would be acceptable like a 5th gen ipod nano or something of equal value. But now in the end they were just lying to me. I paid 250.00 dollars plus tax to something like 260.00 for my ipod nano it was in excellent condition and the battery never heated up. by my take it was worth atleast 175.00 to maybe 150.00 dollars now. and instead i now have a wothless gen 6 that i never agreed to. so as far as i am concerned Apple took a my Trust and my Confidence that they were a honorable group show me i was Wrong . their laughing in Cupertino tonight. and P. T. Barnum would say i am just another one.

No one is laughing. Trust me (or read my previous ranting here!)... I was extremely upset when I found out -- after getting NO answers from ANYONE at Apple for several weeks (via several phone calls) about what they were sending as replacements, and sending my pristine 1G to them before getting any answers ONLY because I was erroneously told that the service request was only good for a certain period of time (and I was afraid to wait too long) -- that the replacement is this tiny, hard to use 6G unit. I called to see if there was any way to get a 1G back (I was even willing to sign a release of liability or pay them to replace the battery in a returned one that was in really good exterior condition) and eventually talked to a manager in Customer Relations or whetever they called it (could have been the same woman you talked to). Although the three people I talked to that day were all very nice and understood why I felt they ahd handled the situation poorly by not allwoing me to make an INFORMED CHOICE about what to do with my nano, the answer from each person, all the way up the line, was that there was nothing they could do. I would have kept my 1G and taken my chances with the battery if I had known what the replacement was.

I think that they handled this extremely poorly from a communication standpoint -- I cannnot, in fact, think of any way they could have screwed it up MORE -- and I believe that they probably did so intentionally in order to get people to turn in as many of these units as possible, but no one at Apple was anything but professional and (seemed) genuinely sorry that I was so upset. So I definitely understand being ****** off.

Your nano, however, was not worth anything CLOSE to what you think it was. Go out to eBay and you can get a refurbished one for about $50 (and then, if the new one also potentially has a bad battery, you can then take it to an Apple store and pay them to have a new battery put in).

So your in the same boat as me. this whole matter is just upseting me.😢 I can do nothing more. this willful deception of battery replacement to junk pod 6 on their part. Just tonight i convinced my cousin not to buy a new ipad he decided to get a toshiba tablet instead. incase apple decides that after you spend your money that they need to recall it and send you the new 6th gen paper pad w/ digital pens and crayons.😁 and lots customer care reps to care about your sadness over the switcharoo. 😝 they understand your not happy.they will extend thier Virtual tissue so u can blow your nose.

I thought you were going to go away. You have not explained how an iPod that is 6 years newer, has twice the memory, a faster processor, and superior DAC is "junk".

So I guess if you drove a 2006 Ford Focus and Ford recalled it and replaced it with a 2011 Focus you would be moaining and complaining about it?

And your cousin must not be very bright if he is listening to you.
